Afternoon Tea at Café Royal London Reviews
The best afternoon tea in London!
We have visited the Grill Room a few times for afternoon tea and it never disappoints. Unlike many places, the menu here is updated regularly so there are always new treats to discover. We visited for a 85th birthday and as ever, the staff were really friendly and welcoming, encouraging us to try different teas. The food was exceptional, the curried chicken on charcoal bread was my favourite but all of the sweet and savoury treats were perfection. The setting is elegant and it's always nice to know which of the famous past patrons sat at your table (we were at Winston Churchill's table and were drinking his favourite smoky lapsang souchong tea!). Many thanks to all the team at the Grill Room for another wonderful visit, and we will be back again soon.
Luxurious afternoon at one of the best!
Splendid. Luxurious. Indulgence. I have scheduled our tea session later during the day and I thought it was the best decision! We all have the saloon to ourselves!!! But what a lovely hostess we had, she’s informative about our tea selections and the whole process. The spectacular sandwiches and desserts are to die for!!! Amazing! Lovely lovely. Definitely exceeded my expectations!
Wonderful Afternoon Tea with the best service
My wife and I attended Cafe Royal for Afternoon Tea in the Grill Room last weekend and having previously visited a number of similar high end offerings in London (Fortnum & Mason, The Ritz, Claridge’s, etc) I have to say that the service here was the best we’ve experienced. A special mention must go to David, Gift and Emerson who served us so attentively during our visit. The room itself is absolutely beautiful with it's ornate decoration and the live pianist is always a nice touch. The food was also incredible. We chose the standard menu (there was also a vegetarian option) with the usual finger sandwiches, plain and sultana scones with clotted cream and jam (including a lovely Earl Grey Jam the chef had created), followed by the stunningly made sweets. Careful attention had also been paid to my slight nut allergy and David explained fully which desserts had been made specifically for me. It was also appreciated that we were told right up front that we could order extra of any of the food items, as this isn’t always explicitly stated at other establishments and leaves you wondering if you can ask for more, if you’re still hungry. We were also told that we could change our tea at any point for another offering and we never had to wait for our cups to be refilled, or for a new warm pot to be brought if the last one had cooled. If I was being really nit-picky, the only slight downside is that the tables and chairs are quite low. At 6’1”, this did make for a slightly uncomfortable sit at first, until I got myself in to position, but my 5’1” wife obviously had no issue. That aside, we had a wonderful experience and will definitely return.
Celebrating Birthday with Afternoon Tea
We visited as a special birthday treat for my wife’s birthday celebration. We arrived early, got asked to wait for a few minutes in the Library and then got escorted to our table. It was fairly busy and the room benefited from the amazing mirror arrangement all around. The piano player lead a special birthday treat and it was a lovely touch. The food was outstanding and the quality amazing. We got offered a refill of the sandwiches, which were fantastic and delicious. Great person touch was that all staff we came across in the restaurant wished my wife a happy birthday! Made her feel very well looked after.
So special
Traditional afternoon tea. It was very British and authentic such a wonderful experience on our vacation! It was a very special experience
THE ONLY PLACE IN LONDON TO HAVE AFTERNOON TEA
THE ONLY PLACE IN LONDON TO HAVE AFTERNOON TEA Wow, what can we say, my friend and I have had afternoon tea over the years at all the top places in London and this visit to the Hotel Cafe Royal has to be the best ever! Where do I start….. Ambience, light piano music, attentive and knowledgeable staff, quality of food and drinks, total perfection! We had a table booked this week for 2.30pm, we arrived 15 minutes early and were shown to a comfy settee and our bags were taken to the cloakroom. Literally 10 minutes later we were shown to our table. Seats were slightly lower than normal but very comfy and added to the intimacy of the afternoon tea in a lovely way. The waiters came down to your level to discuss the menu which all added to the very personalised occasion for this afternoon tea. A special mention here to Emerson who was our waiter, charming young man. You could add a glass of fizz to the standard selection but as we had to drive home we declined. You could have as many different teas as you wanted to try and there were some very special ones on the menu. I ended up taking home a bag beautifully wrapped and packaged. The sandwiches came separately with a couple of amuse bouche on the top tier to tantalise your taste buds, then the sandwiches, two layers with four each, slightly larger than the normal “finger size” but I’m not complaining as it meant more filling! We changed our tea selection for the anticipated cake course but was asked if we would like any more sandwiches, of course I had to say yes! Again, no pressure on time which added to the delightful afternoon. We changed tea selection again and began the scones, both plain and fruit, plus the beautiful delicate cakes. Then just when you thought it was all over you were presented with a beautiful slice of chocolate cake covered in ganache and nuts (nut alternatives would have been available). Yes, you guessed it, we couldn’t finish everything, it was probably the extra sandwiches so they gave us a beautiful carry out box to take home to enjoy later. I cannot stress how wonderful this experience is and would definitely put this No 1 for afternoon tea in London. Do not hesitate, if you are thinking of enjoying this quint essential British tradition book Hotel Cafe Royal in Regent Street.
Excellent!
Yestersay I was fortunate enough to have afternoon tea at Cafe Royal. Well what an amazing experience. I had friends visiting and wanted them to experience a traditional English tea, and Cafe Royal did all of that and more. The staff went above and beyond, my friend got the proper spelling of their names - so apologies for the phonetics!! Shakmar, our attentive waiter who could not have been more accommodating and made some excellent tea recommendations, coming from a family with a tea farm he knew his tea. Shomo who supervised the event made us more than welcome and feel at home. The ambiance was second to none and the food and tea were spot on. I have been to a number of afternoon teas in London but this was definitely a favourite. Thank you so much for the experience.
The Best Afternoon Tea Experience
I booked afternoon tea for my friend's birthday and we both absolutely loved it from beginning to end. The light piano music, the sandwiches and cakes, and the great selection of teas. The room was stunning and the staff were amazing. Friendly, knowledgeable and attentive throughout. Especially Emerson who was so lovely and kind, and Luigi who offered us all different teas to try. Nothing was too much trouble. My friend loved her birthday experience and said it was fantastic and didn't expect it to be so good as we have had other afternoon teas elsewhere, but this was the best! We will definitely be going back at some point and the staff really do make all the difference!
