Trattoria di Via Serra Bologna Reviews
Good value but a little disappointing
We were disappointed as we thought we had a booking. Our Air BnB host booked 2 months ago for us by telephone and confirmed with us by email. We arrived on the dot of 7 pm and were told that there was no booking. I showed the email and was told they don’t accept bookings for tourists by email and they don’t accept phone bookings for tourists however we could sit up at the window facing the street. The owners attitude improved and he explained the menu extensively. Very inexpensive and the food is ok for the price. We unfortunately had very high expectations. I enjoyed my pasta and my husband had a veal dish which he thought lacked flavour. Our entree was good. The Bib Gourmand status it has been given was a bit of a mystery to us.
Trattoria di Via Serra Does Not Honor Reservations Made by Phone or Provide a Way to Make One on its Website
This place does not honor reservation requests left on its voice mail nor does it provide a way to make a reservation request on its website. We showed up for dinner and were turned away! We looked forward to going to Trattoria di Via Serra and called several weeks prior to our trip and left a voicemail request for a reservation since we live in the Western US. Following the reservation request, we did not receive a call back or an e-mail back from the restaurant, so we assumed that our reservation request had been accepted. We were told upon arrival that they did not honor reservation requests left on their voicemail. The owner told us that they only accept reservation requests made when the establishment is open. He was rather brusque and rude about it. Based upon our experience, I would strongly recommend that you do not patronize this establishment. There are plenty of other restaurants in Bologna that are more welcoming and have superb food.
Return again to try what you missed last time!
I've been very lucky to be working on a project in Bologna that has allowed me to return to this beautiful city 18 times in three years, fabulous restaurants everywhere but it is with greatest pleasure that I try to revisit Flavio and Tommaso in this, my favourite, Trattoria de via Sierra.. Try? because it is very popular and booking is essential, over Easter evenings were all booked so I managed to visit for lunch with an international group of colleagues who are all keen to revisit whenever they return to Bologna. Short but excellent menu which evolves through the seasons, everything is first class; starters were excellent, Tosone and Cardoncelli we sampled. Home made fresh pasta; my Italian colleague headed straight for the Tortelloni; his favourite, "the best", as good as his grandmother's! French colleagues had Tagliatelle with Ragu...fantastic. Pay attention to the specials of the day. I had Tagliatelle with wild mushrooms; fresh morels!! delightful. Main; again everything is good, you have to return to try what you didn't have this time as everyone is so enthusiastic about what they are having. Never had a bad experience here. Lunch is relaxed, atmosphere is simple and laid back, service is excellent.....booking avoids disappointment at the door! Flavio, describes the menu in English with a skill that leaves your taste buds tingling with anticipation. Tommaso follows through from the kitchen with dishes that delight and the service all round is friendly, efficient and relaxed. Gives you an appreciation of the wonders of great "slow food" that Italy has to offer. Love it....Bologna has much to offer, Trattoria di Via Serra is at the pinnacle as far as I am concerned. Thank you!
Amazing local cusine
Taken for lunch by work collauges before flying home to Scotland. The owner was so passionate about the produce and the food was great a brilliantly awsome meal
Always a delight.
Once again....Would wish to have the whole menu. Everything is good, never had a bad experience here. Lunch is relaxed, atmosphere is simple and laid back, service is excellent.....booking avoids disappointment at the door! Even if you have visited often....there is a plat du jour which is bound to please...I have to learn Italian...Trattoria di Via Serra is an incentive to do so....not because your host; Flavio, does not speak English, au contraire he is fluent..but because you want to get a deeper appreciation of the wonders of good slow food that Italy has to offer and which Tomasso's kitchen epitomises! Love it....Bologna has much to offer, Trattoria di Via Serra is at the pinnacle as far as I am concerned. Thank you!
NOT WORTH IT
Do NOT try to go to this place they HATE tourists. We tried to make a reservation online and via phone. Then we tried to show up and they had 1 table filled and everything else was empty and they refused to seat us. NOT WORTH THE TIME TO TRY AND GET IN because they only want locals. Left a really bad impression of Bologna.
Impossible eat here!
I feel odd writing a review about a restaurant I have not eaten at but here goes. I read many fabulous reviews about Trattoria di Via Serra and a few weeks before our trip to Bologna I e mailed to the address on the website. I got a simple reply, no reservations by e mail. So I called twice and got a recorded message in Italian. I then e mailed the hotel we were staying at and they responded saying you have to queue up on the day. We walked 30 minutes to a not so nice area of the city to an unwelcoming entrance of the restaurant only to be told it was full, and there is no ability to wait in line and full the next day too. The man explained politely they don't take reservations (but clearly had a book with a long list of reservations) and people behind us were seated immediately. My understanding is if you are local you are ok but if you are a tourist or visitor don't bother. fair enough he did us a favour. Our second choice place to eat squeezed us in (despite telling su they were full) and we returned twice during our stay....positive review completed. Please do not waste your time with this place, there are some wonderful places to eat in Bologna, without the hassle and inconvenience of Trattoria di Via Serra.
I've been here so many times and every time is like the
I've been here so many times and every time is like the first time! True celebration of slow-food, with excellent local ingredients and selection. Flavio is a great host and spends the time to walk you through the menu. It wouldn't be the same experience without him.Every time I got here, I got a discount. Extremely well-priced for the quality. Highly recommended! Uno dei miei ristoranti preferiti in assoluto.
