Excellent ambiance, tasty food and superb customer service
Excellent ambiance, tasty food and superb customer service ! Special attention to detail for our graduate ! Serving staff made into a splendid evening to remember !
This was my first time dining with this chain.
My filet was grilled perfectly. The service and atmosphere were amazing! I highly recommended!
Good Food and Service
We visited shortly after our arrival in DC and after previously visiting the Capital Grille in Boston and Chicago maybe expected something a little more modern. However, the older steakhouse feel and busy atmosphere made it a welcome first stop of the trip and the service was excellent and our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. We shared crab cake to start with and presentation wasn’t the best although it tasted great and the steaks that followed were both excellent and cooked to perfection. As I am celebrating a birthday on this trip we received a complimentary dessert to share which whilst a very nice touch was good at best and our whole meal was accompanied by a nice bottle of wine from a large selection. A very good meal but just a little short of being great.
Most important review I have ever done.
My son is a US Marine stationed in DC. For his 21st b-day, he want to go to Capital Grill (special, not normal). We (family) are in TX an unable to be with him. I knew what time he was going so I called the manager and explained the situation and asked to pay for his dinner over the phone. Erin (manager) said we got it. She went above and beyond to make his b-day special. She took pics and sent them to me. Our son was so surprised, son called saying it was amazing what they did for him and really made it special. I am a Capital Grill fan for life. The food is great, but managers like Erin are what make it really special. Please, if you're in the DC, go to Capital Grill. They support our troops and made a Marines 21st absolutely special for us.

We received excellent customer service from the moment we stepped into The Capital Grille in Washington DC to the time we received our food, completed our dinner, and walked out of this restaurant. We have only wonderful things to say about this fine establishment. This elegant, fine dining restaurant provides a pleasant and relaxing ambience. We enjoyed the food, drinks, and attentive staff. Our meal consisted of: * Sushi-Grade Sesame Seared Tuna with Gingered Rice, White Soy and Sambal Vinaigrette * Seared Citrus-Glazed Salmon with Marcona Almonds and Brown Butter * Filet Migon 10 oz * Sam's Mashed Potatoes Each dish was absolutely delicious! We definitely recommend eating at The Capital Grille in Washington DC!
Fantastic steak with incredible service.
We especially appreciated our waiter Manuel. Very attentive with great recommendations.
Fantastic place, and make sure you go see the Wizards, great venue
Coming from the European continent (Belgium) we have that day in December 2023, under a pouring rain (we are used to these conditions here), visited the Space Museum as well as The Capitol and I had earmarked this place to have dinner (or was it lunch) in the afternoon before joining a Wizards game. We got in (me, spouse, son) very wet, but were welcomed warmly. It was an experience I will not forget. I will not add further comments, if I have the opportunity to get back to DC I know where my first meal will be served. Fantastic place.
Excellent Food. Top-notch service
The Capital Grille is extremely fancy, but don't be intimidated. They accept all and are sweet to all who pop in. We popped in out of the rain dressed in everyday wear and enjoyed a wonderful lunch of steak and salad. I believe they are known for their steak, and they did not disappoint. Everything was on point.

Unless you look like an old money politician, the staff will treat you very disrespectfully. If you're young or not wearing a tom ford suit, don't even consider coming here for a nice night. I don't see what the issue is as long as you're within dress code and are able to afford the bill. We had an old white server who managed to ruin an otherwise great date. He had the audacity to roll his eyes when we were trying to be nice to him. NEVER AGAIN! We are young and were treated as a chore while the table next to us were treated like kings. The table next to us had an old couple. Service was not good. They also cook steaks really inconsistently. I could barely chew mine. Save the time and effort and go to Maestros instead.

This is the second Capital Grille I have been too and the service and food do not disappoint. Consistency is key especially varying from location to location. I would love to stop in here again as well as any other future location. Our Uber driver said this is the place the politicians go but this might be the one thing they have good taste in-kidding! We saw a lot of families and celebrations (birthdays) around us. The drinks are well made. I also feel like you get a lot of bang for your buck with the food and the prices are more than fair. If you leave here still hungry, you're not doing something right. They should be rolling you out. Glad this time around I had room for dessert! Excellent view at night and even during the day of the capitol building from outside the restaurant.
Super Experience
Having lunch here crowned a great vacation in DC. The place is unique and has a fantastic and unique environment. While the menu is not extensive, the variety is good and has excellent options. Quality of the meat is top notch. Service was super attentive and engaging. Wine list is big and with amazing options.
Hello! We are the Gracious Food Critics.
We recently tried the Capital Grille located in Washington DC. We absolutely enjoyed every step of this dinner, from the appetizers to the desserts. Firstly, the staff were amazing and treated us with respect. When we needed a water refill, the staff were on top of it. We started off with a delicious Caramelized French Onion Soup for our appetizers. If you don't have a big appetite, we recommend sharing a meal. The French Onion Soup was a little big for both of us, but the next course was perfectly portioned for us. We ate the Dry Aged New York Strip Streak, which had amazing presentation. Although the steak was unevenly cooked, we were still able to enjoy our meal. With the NY Strip Steak, we ordered a side of mashed potatoes. If you don't like creamy mash potatoes. If you prefer, you can stick to something else for a side. The asparagus that were on our plates were delicious. The tangy flavor of the asparagus paired with the dish nicely. For our last course, we celebrated a birthday. The staff brought out a beautiful dish (which will be posted below). On the dish, there was fruit, whipped cream, the Flourless Dark Chocolate Espresso Cake, and a cheesecake. We devoured this quickly. Overall, the staff were amazing, decorating our table with confetti, the food was great, and the ambiance was peaceful and dim. We definitely recommend that you try the Capital Grille in Washington DC.
A superb meal in an elegant setting.
During a busy day of touring the Capital, we made reservations, wanting to know we would have a restful stop. What a lovely location. Our meals were amazing: Cobb salad with tenderloin and Salmon with Mediterranean couscous. Our server, Manuel P. added the perfect blend of warmth and professionalism. A tie highlight of our day! Thank you!

Amazing food, large portions Filet mignon, lobster mac and mashed potatoes were great. Yummy bread served upon arrival. Mocktail passion fruit mojito was amazing! No wait, good and fast service. Quiet, relaxing atmosphere.
Rudest waiter ever, Oscar was insulting and confrontational.
Treated us with contempt and patronization. We ordered the Bone in Ribeye and it was literally burnt, the waiter clearly did not care about his service. The manager was understanding and accommodating, but our experience was ruined by the incompetence of Oscar.
I started coming here in 2014.
Their food and service are outstanding, and I really enjoy their pineapple spirit. I have been here several times and their aged steaks, while pricey, are savory. They cook it to the patron's request (no requesting one down expecting one up like other places).
I had higher expectations for the food from this restaurant.
The server was awesome and the establishment was typical for a DC steakhouse, however, my entree was hardly edible. I ordered the lobster salad and expected it to be served on a bed of fresh greens, however the few pieces of lobster were piled on a mountain of wilted arugula. The company was great but unfortunately I can't say the same for my entree. #disappointed
Food always on point.

My friends and I all came here to eat and all of us got our food except 1. Now before I get into my friend who was not served, one of us was falsely served deviled eggs (looked mid) which were supposed to be served with bacon on the side, instead there were little pieces of what I would assume to be mediocre bacon. She ended up crying in child's pose in the bathroom. Bless her heart. The place itself is also an alcoholic stance. For us underage youngins, we were quite uncomfortable. Now back to my friend who did not get served. She waited AN HOUR. Absolutely unacceptable. All of us others were finished by the time her food came. She had to remind multiple different waiters every few minutes. Not for nothing, these two friends are black individuals. What month is it? February. Let that sink in.
An absolutely perfect dining experience
Capital Grille is an amazing dining experience. The ambiance takes you back into time when restaurants really went out of their way to make their diners happy. The best part of our experience was our waiter Jared Johnson. He was friendly, welcoming, accommodating, and so knowledgeable about the menu. Everything he recommended was great —wine, appetizer, entree, and dessert were an absolute delight. Try the lobster bisque with REAL lobster throughout and the creamy, flakey sea bass with sautéed mushrooms! Yum!
This review is mostly for the waiter my family and I had
This review is mostly for the waiter my family and I had today. Bill was phenomenal! Very attentive, knowledgeable and made our dining experience personal. On his own, he deserves 5 stars!! We had Caesar salads to start, a filet mignon, and 2 bone in NY strips. For sides we had the au gratin potatoes, wild mushrooms and asparagus. The salads were great and those sides were amazing! 5/5 for those dishes!! The steaks, however, were slightly above average but not worth the amount we paid for them. 4/5 at best for those. Not sure if it was an off night for the steaks or if we need to purchase a higher quality meat next time. Overall we'd still recommend this restaurant and we'll be back but probably ordering different entrees next time. We will absolutely request Bill as our waiter again! He made the whole experience!
Mediocre and disappointing
We are regular visitors to Capitol Grille, at various locations. This was a lunch in downtown DC before going to a museum with grown children. The lobster salad was awful and definitely not worth $38. In the past, it was a delicious mixture with bib lettuce. This time is a a generous portion on top of a bunch of stringy arugula lettuce without dressing—just stringy dry lettuce—on top of avacado. It was dry and awful. A salad at this level of restaurant should be an amazing combination of ingredients and dressing. Years ago at Cap Grille they had an amazing mixed salad with lobster. But this was none of that. It was dry, stringy, and uninteresting. We were very disappointed
Great restaurant !
We ran into the Capitol Grille by chance and were happy we did. We came for a small lunch and enjoyed that thoroughly. We were lucky to get two seats ... next time we will make sure to reserve. Their clam-chowder is excellent and so was the wine and the rest of the food. Service was outstanding.
Very Nice Birthday Dinner!!
We came here as a small group for a surprise birthday party for my son… We stopped at the bar before being sat at our table. The bartender and experience was decent. They have a nice cocktail menu and a huge wine list, with some decent by-the-glass offerings. Once sat at the table (which they jazzed up with sparkles, but no bday card, like we’ve experienced at the Tysons location when going for special events in the past), our server was great… very friendly and attentive, as well as outgoing and accommodating. We started with the Nueske’s Cherrywood Smoked Bacon with Korean BBQ and their Tuna Tartare with Avocado, Mango and Sriracha and bother were fresh and tasty… the bacon is highly recommended!! Next course was some salad, two of us split the Wedge with Bleu Cheese and Smoked Bacon, which was fresh and tasty. Love the smokey flavors of bleu cheese with bacon! For dinner, they were offering an American Wagyu strip, as well as an 8ox lobster tail, so we had to get both of those. We also got their Kona-Crusted Dry Aged Bone-In NY Strip with Shallot Butter and their Dry Aged NY Strip au Poivre with Courvoisier Cream and the temps of our steaks were all spot on! The flavors were great and that Wagyu was OUTSTANDING! Dessert was excellent as they made a huge platter of incredible sweets for the table. Overall, it was another really nice experience… Highly recommend stopping in for a nice steakhouse diner!
Great atmosphere, very close to National Gallery of Art 🖼️
Love the atmosphere and how close it is to the Smithsonian National Gallery of Art. The food was pretty good and the service fantastic and very kind
I throughly enjoyed this place.
I sat at the bar in which I had a warm welcome from the bartender. The food and drinks were delicious and I'll definitely be eating here again.
Fabulous meal and service
Fabulous meal and service our first night in DC. Hard to top the remaining four days we were in town.
Was a wonderful experience with great service.
Really enjoyed the tasty food and felt very relaxed.
Food was up to par.
Server was very good. My issue was with the hostesses. We were stuck in DC traffic and called the restaurant to tell them we were running late. They said "no problem, we will see you when you get here." We showed up 18 minutes late for our reservation and were told they gave our table away because they had a 15 minute grace period. I realize I showed up outside of the 15 minute window, but they should have told me when I called that they were going to give our table away. When i mentioned this to the hostess, she was argumentative and said we called too late... then changed her story and said she wasn't the one who answered the phone. No apology or anything. It's just the entire way they handled the situation that turned me off. I don't need an attitude and a semi argument at the hostess stand when I'm getting ready to drop $600 on a dinner. Won't be coming back anytime soon. Too many other options that don't treat you like you're doing them a favor by eating at their establishment.
This is a beautiful traditional steakhouse.
The food was excellent, befitting the cost. Our steaks and fish were cooked perfectly, as was everything else; we also had the calamari appetizer, which was some of the best calamari that either of us have had, and our desserts -- a brulee-style cheesecake and a flourless expresso cake -- were rich but perfect finales to a solid meal. There's no skimping on the food here either -- you get very good quantity with your fantastic quality. The booth seats are lush, and the lighting is classic-dark but not too dark to read menus by. (I will say that with the traditional atmosphere, the space did have more open tables than I expected upon entering, as opposed to being primarily booths.) The service was exceptional -- warm, friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive staff across the board.I would happily return!

Came here for lunch after congressional visits and enjoyed an amazing filet!! The lobster bisque was especially appetizing after running around in the cold.

The restaurant is great! It offers coat check so you don't have to hang your coats on the backs of your chair. Once seated the waiters are very very polite. I was amazed at how he was able to remember our orders without writing them down. The way the waiter addressed our was so warm. He used our names every-time was spoke with him. The food was also great! It was very flavorful and well seasoned! The portions were huge and worth the price. The bill was 300+ but it was well worth it! If you want a fine dinning experience this is the place to go.

Yummy steak! The encrusted ribeye is my favorite! It melts in your mouth. The Brussels sprouts are delicious and worth the calories. For a healthier option choose the mushrooms or the sautéed spinach which are also good. Service is great. I will keep coming back to this restaurant!
Went on a date here as a walk-in and was seated promptly
Went on a date here as a walk-in and was seated promptly although being informed we would have to vacate our table in roughly an hour. Everyone was friendly and attentive to our needs. The bread was fresh and warm, and our entrees were fantastic. The salmon was lightly crusted with salt and delicious, and the filet mignon was cooked to perfection and tender. We finished off with a crème brulee that was sweet and a perfect finisher for the meal. Great atmosphere as well, truly top notch!

What was not to love the outdoor seating the fantastic service the great drinks the amazing appetizers the wonderful soup the amazing entrées and the gorgeous atmosphere I was a favorite and never a disappointment in the capital Grille! It's a must do when you go to Washington DC the gorgeous view of the capital!

I decided to treat myself to a solo 25th birthday dinner at an upper end restaurant and by the end I think it was one of the best birthday meals I've ever had. I started off with the French Onion Soup, Field Greens salad, and a Stoli Doli- their signature martini. I then ordered the MOST expensive steak I could find on the menu- Porcini Rubbed Bone-In Ribeye with 15-Year Aged Balsamic- with a side of Creamed Spinach. The ribeye steak was ABSOLUTELY delicious and almost melted in my mouth! They were also kind enough to serve a complementary birthday dessert which I was pleasantly satisfied with as well.
Best meal!
Our family came in for an early dinner one day after touring the Capitol building and we were so glad we did. My very picky son said the chicken tenders he had were the best he’s ever ate, which is high praise from him. The rest of us agreed, definitely my favorite meal of our trip and one of the best steaks I’ve had in a long time. Our server was Joey and he was knowledgeable of the options with my gluten allergy and he was also just a great guy! So glad we stumbled upon this restaurant, would highly recommend to anyone and if we return to the area this will definitely be our go to for dinner! Thanks so much for a great meal and service!
A great night
I was here this past Friday night with my partner and two friends. We had an amazing time. Service from the waiter Tony P was friendly, personalized, and efficient. He's an asset to the restaurant, and it was clear he has many regulars - I would hope to become one of them. I had the cesar salad, ribeye, and shared sides of lobster mac, creamed spinach, and au gratin potatoes. All were delicious and cooked perfectly. Everybody marveled at how fun, festive, and "normal" feeling it was to dine here. I dont usually go to steak houses, but I'm glad I came to this one and will return.
So Flippin Good
I did not know what to expect when waking into the Capital Grille but it was over my expectations it was excellent the Korean bbq Bacon App was one of the best things I had during my entire time in DC a Must go in the DMV area
Terrific steaks!
What a wonderful, welcoming place for dinner. Our waiter, Koy Lopez was terrific. My husband enjoyed his clam chowder, and I had a terrific spinach with goat cheese salad. For dinner we had the bone in filet special, and the regular filet. Both steaks were cooked to our liking.
A great meal and a price that was not out of line with the quality
We ate here as a large group from a conference nearby and had a great time. Our group shared some appetizers (the fresh oysters, calamari, and the thick cut bacon really stand out in my memory). This is the first and original CG and it shows. Our waiter took great care of us. For entrees, most of us had some cut of steak with a salmon, a sea bass, and two kids meals thrown into the mix. My dry aged porcini-mushroom rubbed bone-in ribeye was quite nice, but I have to admit the sides stole the show. The lobster mac and cheese, asparagus, corn, and salads were out of this world. I would come back for the thick cut bacon any night I could. Wine list was about 2x retail, so fairly reasonable. We had a great Tiganello and enjoyed our evening.
