Swift & Sons Chicago Reviews
Fun spot, wouldn’t go for a special occasion
The design of the space is amazing! Such a great atmosphere. I love that they seat the two-tops in half booths facing the center. It feels cozy and like you’re a part of the energy. Overall, food and service were good not great. We came for our anniversary and at a restaurant like this I would usually expect some sort of acknowledgment- a desert, drink or even a note on the table but didn’t get anything like this. Not a deal breaker but worth noting. My steak was pretty good. The baked potato side was our favorite.

My boyfriend wants to go to a steakhouse every year for his birthday and Swift & Sons did not disappoint. The food was amazing with plenty of options, steaks cooked perfect to order, and the sides were on par with a premium steakhouse (highly recommend the mushrooms, even if you aren't a fan of them). Steaks came with delicious sauces, although they didn't need it. To end the meal we had one of the best espresso martinis in town. We stayed at the restaurant bar for another after dinner drink.
A solid steakhouse but not the best in the area.
It has a great atmosphere and a huge space. The service was inconsistent. If your friends want to come here it's worth the visit but I wouldn't go out of my way. A bit of an odd dinner for us tonight but I'm a sucker for scotch eggs and pierogis so knowing I couldn't take down both and a steak I went with just those. They were both good, hearty portions, no complaints from me on either one. We also picked up the steak frites. Steak was well seasoned and cooked properly. The fries were good as well. Our service was inconsistent. I didn't get a refill on my drink, had to ask twice and at the end of the dinner it got refilled. Everything here was solidly good but I struggle to find anything that wowed me like so many other places in the area. But that deep dish cookie. Oh my. I'd come back just for that. Perfect size for 1 person IMO, a little small to share but oh was it gooey and warm and delicious.

I have been coming here for years and celebrated my 30th birthday here a few years ago. Most recently, my now-husband and I had our "final" date as an unmarried couple at Swift & Sons. The team warmly greeted us, gave us special menus that say "congratulations" on them and signed a lovely card with warm wishes. We were served a really delicious dinner. I had a small issue with my order, but the team quickly took care of it and ensured that I was satisfied. They made the night so memorable. They even gave us a lot of complimentary dessert. We felt so special and we look forward to more date nights here. Thank you to the Swift & Sons team for making our wedding process so wonderful!
Really awesome brunch.
The food was amazing. The service was excellent. We loved Mitch. He was a great waiter and took great care of us. The place was a little chilly for me but everyone else at the table was comfortable. Everything was a must try! Fabulous
The location is much larger than expected.
Service was nice but can be a little slow in the beginning. I thought it was cute that they had "happy anniversary" on the top of the menu. Food was delicious. I liked the crab cakes even with celery. Ravioli had some good texture from the pine nuts and my boyfriend loved the steak. Dessert was huge but I liked the little balls they had for our anniversary.
Enjoyed Swift & Sons for an amazing night out with family.
Entrees and drinks were superb, and service was equally as good. Definitely coming back.

This place is always consistent, service is great, food is perfection, and ambiance is lovely. I liked the music a lot too!
Dissappointed...
We were disappointed with the quality of the food we got compared to previous times we were there. Everyone in our group was shocked to be honest.

Swift & Sons was a delicious and satisfying experience for us! We snagged a last minute reservation for 3 on a Saturday night and were greeted with excellent service! The overall ambiance felt like a cozy library and i loved it. The menu was well-rounded and for appetizers we went with the Steak Tartare, Potato and Ricotta Pierogi, and Oysters. All were exceptional. For steaks, we did the Filet Mignon and New York Strip which were all cooked perfectly. The Mashed Potatoes and Roasted Brussel Sprouts were a great pairing. We closed out the dinner with the Creme Brûlée. We've always driven/walked by this place many times and are so glad that we finally tried it out. Definitely bringing friends and family back here!

There's nothing to say because it all was just amazing! My service was amazing, the ambiance was picture worthy, and my food was top tier! I'm brining hubby back for our next date night.
Had a lovely dinner here the other night.
Steak was perfectly cooked. Highly recommend the A5 fat washed old fashioned and the butternut squash agnolotti. Such a great vibe.
A solid steak house option
Stunning place, impeccable delivery on the menu items ordered. Excellent wine list. Absolutely a steak house to consider from the many great options in Chicago. The whole facility is stunning, with great interior design from entrance to washrooms. There was a large party in the bar area near our table, we requested to move to another table to be a little quieter, they immediately accommodated us.
Not bad for Restaurant Week
As part of Restaurant Week 2024, I visited Swift and Sons with my wife and friends. I enjoyed the steak and sides. A delicious meal at an affordable price.
Spectacular filet mignon
Great restaurant! The 8oz filet mignon was spectacular—not only in terms of its perfect temperature but also in its ease of cutting and its soft, tender texture. The salad was also excellent.
Supposed to be a Michelin restaurant
Visiting Chicago from East coast. Very much looked forward to superlative steak dinner. On a Thursday night the place was mobbed with people and Ubers. The energy generated by the noise level in the restaurant made it very difficult to have a conversation. Maybe that was why a man at a nearby table of 5 seemed to be shouting. There was no rush, yet the meal seemed a little rushed. My NY strip steak was tender but was almost too salty. I think Steak at this price point should be tender and flavorful without overdressing it. Our Brussels sprouts were described as crispy, but they weren’t. And, they too were heavily salted. The restaurant is definitely an ‘it’ place to go, but I wasn’t impressed.
Birthday meal a total success!
My wife and I visited Chicago for three nights and after a lot of research decided on Swift and Sons for her birthday meal. Our server Candy was an absolute gem and just made the entire experience. Steak was perfect, sides were delicious (the mash was the star of the show) cocktails and wines were spot on. Highly recommend! A total bonus if you’re lucky enough to land in Candy’s section, thanks again for the fantastic night!
Very good experience.
Great experience. Food was very good. Service was great. Atmosphere was very comfortable. Would go back again. No complaints.
Could have been perfect with the right meat temperature
Everything was about as close to perfect as you can get except for the cook on the meat. The server was helpful and attentive but unfortunately didn't circle back with us until a few minutes after the entree was served. I must say that the meat was very high quality and the flavor was over the top, even though it was undercooked.
Beautiful dinner, cute dessert trolley. Lovely birthday treat.
Lovely dinner on a busy Friday evening, the service was excellent, atmosphere very good. Plenty attentive staff & our waiter was very helpful and knowledgeable. It was my birthday and they brought small sweets, very kind. Huge wine list. Expensive dinner but very nice!! The dessert trolley looked wonderful but we were too full. The pre dinner bread was excellent. The cocktail trolley a proper novelty.

I've only been here twice, both times for private events, but both times were enjoyable. The first was a business lunch and the food and service were both great! The other night was a private dinner party in the Wellington Room which started with craft cocktails and appetizers then a dinner which was a pre-fixe menu consisting of two types of salads, roasted salmon, filet mignon with a red wine sauce on the side, mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach, all served family style. I could have filled up on the delicious salads, but the entire meal was so good!! The steak melted in your mouth and the mashed potatoes were rich yet light. They kept the wine flowing as well and we had 3 types of dessert! Definitely a fulfilling meal. A few colleagues and I went to the bar after dinner and I kept thinking that I'd love to bring my family here or my husband for a date night. It's a lovely space that reminds me of an old school steak house. Can't wait to go again!

I made reservations here for a late dinner at 1045p on a Friday evening for our anniversary. They close at 11p & I felt bad for making it that day, but they allowed me too, plus we had a spa date around 8p that same evening after we got off, so a late dinner sounded pleasant. They did not disappoint! They did call me around 1030p to confirm we were still arriving, we ended up getting there right at 1045p and there were other customers, but not many. The ambiance was dim, more on the romantic side and they always played good house music. We got seated right away and were introduced to our server in addition to another lady helping him out. We already looked at the menu before hand, so we already knew what to order to speed up the process other than the drinks. So we gave our server our orders to bring out accordingly. We first started off with the seafood platter for 2. Each costing $50/pp, but you get 3 decent sized shrimp cocktails, 2 prices of Alaskan king crab, 2 different kinds of oysters and a shareable baked potato caviar. Everything tasted very fresh & yummy. As far as drinks, hubby got the apricot old fashion and I got a dirty martini. Topped either stuffed blue cheese olives, just how I like it!For the apps, we opted for the crispy Brussel sprouts, French onion soup and twice baked potato. They split the soup for us and when they brought it out, i questioned if it was split because even the split portion was huge! Portions are definitely shareable and both were phenomenal! The Brussel sprouts had a tang to it, subtly sweet, with a hint of salt and a little bit of char, not too over powering. The twice baked potato was amazing. Very fluffy, packed with flavors, enough to feed 2-3, maybe even 4. Now for the entrée, we knew to get a steak at a steakhouse, so we opted to share the 30 day dry age rib eye, medium rare and asked if the kitchen can cut it up for us. Steak came out perfect. Even with a side of their homemade steak sauce & horse radish. The steak was definitely the star of the show.We noticed we were one of the few left there, but we did not feel rushed at all. Everyone was so attentive & they even brought out complimentary foie Gras and oxtail marmalade compliments of the chef, just to let us know that we aren't pressured to leave. It was very much appreciatedThank you for making our anniversary night so special. I forgot to take a picture, but on their menu, they customized it to say Happy Anniversary! To us and provided us with complimentary chocolate truffles that had Happy Anniversary written on the plate it was on.Definitely will be coming back!
Went here w/the bf last night.
We had reservations at 8:15PM and waited just a little while. Understandably, they were busy, but were all nice and courteous. Our server was extremely busy, but again nice and courteous. My bf ordered the french onion soup and for his main, he had the 8oz filet. I had the crab cake as my main. Him and I shared the caesar salad and the sides of mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. The sides are def sharable size. GORGEOUS restaurant. The ambiance and architecture, you can tell they took a lot of time out with planning this. Perfect for a date night!
I booked Swift & Sons for a belated Valentine's Day dinner.
We went on a Saturday evening and the restaurant was packed.Despite being busy, we were greeted at the front and quickly shown to our table. I was shocked at just how big the restaurant itself is and nearly every table was full. We sat in a back room with a few other parties. This area was great as it was quiet and allowed for easier conversation. Our server was exceptional. They were prompt in welcoming us in and were thorough in explaining the menu and offering drink and food recommendations. We took our time ordering everything as we wanted to enjoy the experience and we were never once rushed. The food was delicious from start to finish. I could have eaten a whole meal of just bread had they kept bringing more out. We ordered the French Onion Soup to start. It was rich and creamy and the perfect start to a meal on a cold day. I opted for the 22oz Dry Aged Ribeye and my partner got the Filet. Both were cooked perfectly and extremely flavorful. The star of the meal though was the brussels sprouts side. They were so crispy and savory and a great compliment to the meal. We would have stayed for dessert but we had reservations at The Office across the street. All in all, Swift & Sons was a fantastic experience and I will certainly be bringing the family here when they visit for an exceptional Chicago steakhouse experience.
This is my first time dining here but the food as service
This is my first time dining here but the food as service was so good that I decided to leave a review. I sat the the bar since I was alone. Figured I'd eat and go while doing a bit of people watching. The ambiance was really nice as the lights do dim later in the evening. The place is quite spacious if you'd rather sit at a table instead of the bar like I did.For the appetizer I ordered the WAGYU BRISKETBok Choy Kimchi, Bone Marrow, Herb Infused ConsomméCITRUS SALADShallot Vinaigrette, Delaware Fireball, ManchegoThe entree was502 JAPANESE A5 WAGYU STRIP LOIN (3oz)with a side of the fried brussel sprouts.I enjoyed the salad which was quite refreshing and the brussel sprouts were quite flavorful . I would've eaten all my brussel sprouts as a kid had they tasted like this! The brisket tasted wonderful and was so tender. As for the A5 Wagyu strip loin...OMG, every bite melted, I mean MELTED in my mouth. Now for why I decided to really write the review. The service staff is fantastic. Everyone is so professional. At times, I forgot I was dining alone because someone was always checking up on me to see if I needed anything such as a coffee refill or if the food was prepared the way I liked it. I told the server that I was a picky eater and he remembered what my dislikes were and made sure the recommendations reflected as such. The bar was busy because it was happy hour but they still made sure to check on me even though I was only drinking coffee with my food. The bartender noticed one of the dishes came out with something he knew I didn't like and immediately asked If I wanted him to bring it back to the kitchen to have to redo it for me. i was getting low on coffee and another employee appeared out of the blue and asked if I'd like a refill. It's like the whole restaurant checks up on you to make sure your dining experience is a good one. Maybe it was because I was sitting at the bar so employees are always walking by but whatever the reason is, it made my first dining experience there an amazing one. I'll definitely be back but probably more for special occasions because it is a little over my budget...but definitely worth every penny. Probably said too much or not enough but I'm still happy and full from my experience. :)Happy dining!
My wife and I made our first visit to Swift & Sons.
It was phenomenal and reminded me of the old-time steak houses of Chicago, with a modern and uplifting feel. We started with half salads and half lobster bisque to share. The bisque was absolutely the best and both our salads were equally outstanding. Appetizers of the house made pierogi and truffle ravioli were to die for. My wife had the filet and I had the Rohan duck. Both were perfection. Coupled with the twice baked potato and the creamed spinach which we split and both left us speechless. We also indulged in roasted mushrooms and the mac and cheese sides which were equally fantastic. Deserts had to come home with us as did about half of our meals. Our server Justin made us feel at home and was great to us both. Chef Will stopped by and explained much of what we were looking at and his suggestions were spot on. Claudia, the GM also stopped by and welcomed us. The staff whose named I cannot remember, were always stopping by to check on us without feeling obtrusive. Prices were about what you would expect but quality does come with a cost. Thanks to all who made our visit memorable.Pat H.

Came here with my boyfriend last night for a date night and we had the best time. The vibe is awesome it's an upscale lounge, we were seated in a big booth. The service was some of the best. We had Candy as our waitress and she went above and beyond. We asked her opinion between two deserts and she gave them both to us, one on the house! To start I had a dirty martini( one of the best I have had, I love when they have blue cheese olives) For apps it came with house bread, one was a cheesy bread and it was amazing. I would literally come back here just for the bread. It was so light and crispy. We also had oysters(on the smaller side, but still good) and the rock shrimp. The portion size on this was massive and it was cooked to perfection. The sauce was perfection. For the main I had the 8oz filet medium, mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. The filet was sooooo good, also gave us complimentary sauces, I really liked the mustard one. Cant go wrong with the mashed potatoes, perfect texture and flavor. To end the night I had an aperol spritz (great pour), skillet cookie and pb cake. The pb cake is a work of art, and sooo good, it is a cold dish, with a pb sauce making it perfect. And the skillet cookie was warm and rich and just amazing. I am so happy to have found this place and can't wait to come back. Had such an enjoyable time!
I went with my family last year to celebrate my birthday.
Excellent service and the food was great!

This place has good food, but the ambience and the hospitable crew are what really make the experience special. There is such personalized care and attention paid by the sommelier and the host, and the manager to each and every table that you cannot help but feel special. It's also one of the few rather swanky places where the sides actually are at par, if not better than, the dang entree. The shrimp appetizer and scallop appetizer were both good. The Salmon and the Mahi Mahi are both well cooked and balanced dishes. But the mashed potato side along with the mushrooms absolutely stole the show. For dessert, the butter cake rather did me in. I was unsure if I should gobble it down in haste or slow myself down to savor each bite. A rather splendid end to a fantastic meal. Will be coming back again!
We loved the service and friendly atmosphere this place
We loved the service and friendly atmosphere this place provides. it's a great place to come with friends, date night, small or large groups. The restaurant is larger than I had expected, very comfortable. The food was tasty with good portion sizes. Highly recommend.
Amazing Steaks
Not really a steak hunter but when special occasion why not. Not much of choices for appys. 5 oz Japanese wagyu was perfect. Mash potatoes and beans to go with was filling. Enjoyed the creme brulee too. Good selection of drinks
Go here for good steak!
There are many steakhouses in Chicago , not all good. This however is excellent. Our starters and mains were wonderful, steak cooked just as we asked for it. A little out of the centre and we had difficulty getting a cab. The restaurant would not assist us which was rather disappointing
Great Service and food, horrible atmosphere
We were so excited to try this restaurant but ended up leaving a bit disappointed. The service was impeccable. Our waiter was attentive and extremely helpful with menu options. Our biggest issue was the noise level. My husband and I could not even hear each other over the overall background noise. I ended up leaving with a low-grade headache. As far as the food itself is concerned, some was incredible, but not all. I ordered my filet medium, and it was undercooked. I thought about sending it back but did not want to risk it coming back overcooked. Overall, the food was delicious.
Impeccable service , tender aged steaks and a great vibe , make RPM Steak a top tier steak house in Chicago.
RPM Steak has earned its reputation for service excellence and quality . As two chefs in the business , we are very selective of where we choose to dine for our family events. RPM Steak is our family favorite, it is also where we bring friends, family and clients. While RPM Steak is, a “steak house”, they do have a diverse menu and are very accommodating to dietary needs. There are plenty of options for gluten free, vegetarian , keto etc. The ambiance is hip and fun. Some guests are dressed up, others are casual . There is no pressure. Kids are welcome , and mine have enjoyed many fine meals at RPM Steak. Truffle Risotto is our favorite!
Wow, amazing
We hadn’t been to swift and sons I probably 4-5 years. We remember it being very good but this was next level. We arrived a bit early and were able to find seats at the bar which I believe there are 3 bar areas you can sit at. We went to the one up one level. Excellent selection of creative cocktails. I believe mine was called a First Class ticket which was a riff on a Paper Plane. Really enjoyed, professional bartender that was attentive and engaging. We actually had 2 before sitting. When we were seated our server was great. Attentive but not too much, everything was on point. I actually had a drink for the traveling bar cart which had a couple options. I had the smoke old fashioned. A little bit of a novelty but it was a legit cocktail. I started with the crispy spicy shrimp. This was excellent. Maybe not crispy crispy but delicious. I then had the NY strip and fries. The steak came with 3 house steak sauces. Tried them all, enjoyed them all but I tend to be a bit of a steak purist. The steak itself was cooked perfect, tender, juicy. We bright a bottle of wine, $35 corkage which I knew ahead of time. Probably about the max I would be comfortable with. We finished with the gooey butter pie. At that point of the meal I could have skipped it. Wasn’t that memorable for me Overall, what a great experience. From walking in, sitting at the bar, the table service, food, drink, great atmosphere and energy, excellent overall. I actually didn’t remember it being as good as it was from our last visit but this left a great impression. And I should add, the prices were incredibly reasonable. I just finished writing a review for Prime and Proper in Detroit which came up way short and came with higher prices and not nearly as good and is trying to be a high end steakhouse. And I didn’t fully realize that until the visit to Swift and Sons for a comparison.
