Sukiyabashi Jiro Chuo City Reviews
Most expensive quick dinner you will eat.
Overall quality of food was 5/5 but dining experience 3/5. Was able to get reservation a month in advance through concierge from our hotel in Tokyo. Pace of eating was fast as mentioned in other reviews but not overwhelming. Did not feel taste of vinegar was strong. Enjoyed watching the consistency of technique mastered but overall environment was too tense. Sat there with my wife eating but did not feel comfortable having a conversation while eating as we were focused on eating on pace and properly. Food did taste amazing and very good quality.
One of the truly great meals of my life
The greatest sushi meal I have ever had. A serene, stunning space, and the service bordered on psychic. We felt incredibly honoured to eat here.
Carpe diem
OK let's talk some plain truth. This is the best sushi I have ever eaten in many years of trying different sushi restaurants both in Japan and in the UK. The reviews are marmite in their extremes - but you really need to enter Jiro's domain with an altered mindset. This is not a cosy, traveller friendly, smiley banter, while away the evening experience. It is an old school world where the chef is passionate about the art of sushi making, selecting the best ingredients possible prepared to perfection in advance of the service. This means that international travellers have an obligation to do their homework in advance and to understand the etiquette of sushi eating. Please do not complain about the fact that wasabi is not provided (the correct amount is already placed inside the nigiri) or that you are chastised for dipping an already well seasoned piece of sushi into soy sauce. The website provides goods notes to help the sushi rookie! Seize the day and you will have a memorable experience that will linger, I promise you!
The undisputed, global master of the craft
Nothing else needs to be said. You either recognize that Jiro is the best, most respected sushi chef in the world, or you don't. Coming here is not about stoking your ego, checking off a bucket list item, or making cool instagram reels. It's not even about having a good time. It's about appreciation of masterfully-prepared food. It's not about you. It's about the food. If you understand that, you'll agree with every other food critic and chef in the Japan that there is no better place on the planet for good sushi.
Extreme sushi legend

I will dream of Jiro
This place ranks in my Top 3 dining experiences, I’m not a fan of the Michelin system so I rarely go to those types of restaurants. Jiro is no longer part of that program mainly because they don’t need to be. The restaurant only seats 10 people at a time for 30 minutes with about 20 pieces of the most delectable prices of art you can imagine. You have to book through your hotel concierge well in advance.
If I had to pick one word to represent this meal it would be unrelenting
There is no question about the ingredients or the technical ability about Jiro or the staff but for a $1000 meal it only lasts about 35 minutes and it felt rushed. Nobody at the table spoke at all which added to the awkward nature of the meal and all in all while the sushi was top notch we didn’t even finish because it was just one after the other and we left disappointed.
Terrible terrible
The worse eating experience ever in my entire life! Sushi was served at a very fast pace 25 minutes meal for 19 pieces of sushi and rice is very very sour. Service staff was very rude towards the end. The asked us to leave the counter (while my girlfriend is holding her last piece of tamago) to sit on a side table where they placed a rotten melon for us. Not worthy of a Michelin awards
As bad as last time
When master Jiro is not there, it's a disaster. This place is going to shut down soon. It was completely empty other than us being there. I've been coming here over 10 years but it has just fallen off a cliff. No wonder all its stars are gone. Why is it so bad? The rudeness level has gone up to unprecedented heights. Jiro's son is a disgrace to his father. Pieces of sushi badly molded, the rice breaking down. Way too much wasabi between the fish and the rice to the point it makes you cry. Way too much rice on the nigiri making the experience unpleasant. The boiled prawns, as usual were garbage. Save your time, money and health and go elsewhere.
