RingSide Steakhouse Portland Reviews
This is my favorite place for steak.
They actually serve a USDA prime and dry aged steak, and they know how to cook them perfectly. Their onion rings are a must, I understand the seafood is good, but I'm allergic so I can't say from personal experience. The salad dressing is wonderful and I loved the garlic mashed potatoes. They have wonderful appetizers and very strong cocktails. When I'm feeling very carnivorous, this is where I go. I've had steak in every halfway decent place and this clearly is the best. Of course, They charge you accordingly. But I would rather have an expensive perfect steak, than an inexpensive, mediocre One. I have to say there is one more reasonably priced steak that I order when I don't feel like going to a high-end dinner house, mothers bistro and bar serves a wonderful, medium priced ribeye. The ambience is my favorite in the city. Service is impeccable.

Major wedding anniversary (60) and knew we wanted to go the Ringside. I have been going here since the mid 1950's and have alway loved it. We know we will get great food and service so that was our only choice. All in all it was nice, but not great, we were seated in the little bricked area on the west side of the building in a corner next to another couple who were way too close to us. The real problem was that they were extremely loud, especially the woman she was talking and laughing all through the meal. She was on here phone constantly and speaking with the man at the same time. Kind of ruined the evening for us. Our waiter was ok, but not up the standard that we expect from Ringside service. The food on the other had was excellent and we enjoyed it even with the shouting neighbors. We will of course return because we know it will be better next time and the food will still be great
I am a huge fan of the Ringside and have been going since I
I am a huge fan of the Ringside and have been going since I was a kid so close to 50 years:). They do things right here. The service is amazing and even though I am a Z lister they treat me, and make me feel like an A lister. This visit I was here for this past Monday night I had the Prime Rib dinner which is an amazing dinner, and quite a deal as well. The prime rib was amazing as always cooked to perfection with two great sauces on the side as well as horseradish. The mixed green salad was amazing, and the creme brulee is to to die for. A trip to the Ringside can't be complete for me without their amazing onion rings, which I believe Jame Beard described as the best he had ever had:). I like the old school feel. Definitely, has a coozy rat pack feel. If Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis jr, Dean Martin, Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop were still alive they would be going to The Ringside no question. I like that the servers are dressed to the nines, and the lighting is dark. I like that Lebron James when he is in town likes to visit The Ringside that speaks to what a great restaurant The Ringside is as Mr. James can go to any restaurant he wants and he chooses The Ringside
This is a perfectly good old school steakhouse experience.
The service is good, the food is good - with a couple of standouts. I had the prime rib and my friend had the baseball cut top sirloin. The steak was the winner- thick, tender & delicious. The garlic mash with it was good too. The onion rings warm their place as a house fave- crispy on the outside with thick cut onion inside. The prime rib was good with minor complaints. It was tender and clearly good quality meat, perfectly cooked but oversalted. The si jus was a weird combination of too salty and kind of sweet, making me wish I hadn't poured even a small amount on the meat. It was still a good meal though. Overall I think the price is mainly for the old school experience. I'd consider going again for a birthday or special occasion for someone who enjoys that ambience.
Outstanding steakhouse with very old school vibe especially
Outstanding steakhouse with very old school vibe especially in the bar area ! Great service ,top quality food, and all around good experience.

Bartenders take things that people say too seriously and kick them out because they think they're going to get in trouble for something that's not actually true. They are nosy and listen to other people's conversations to protect themselves but in the end they lose business and clientele.
Haven't been since our first trip to Portland 15 yrs ago.
Happy to see they've kept their high standards in place. We shared the oysters on a half shell. Side of mignonette sauce, fresh grated horseradish & mini Tabasco sauce bottle. Yes, it's always a risk to do raw oysters. However, the safest place to partake, would be a VERY good restaurant. So, we devoured them within minutes of hitting the table. SO GOOD! We split the Caesar salad to avoid over stuffing ourselves. Served "chopped salad" style. Crispy croutons, shredded parm, just enough dressing to coat the romaine. Very nice example of a Caesar salad. My son had the NY steak. Served perfectly med-rare as requested. HUGE baked potato with all the fixings. The house butter was lightly flavored with Worcestershire sauce(?). Really good choice. I chose my fav Rib eye steak served rare. Just perfect. Flavorful, perfectly seasoned & not needing any other accoutrements. They really do an outstanding job with steaks here. Not knowing the restaurants history, I'm assuming it's been around for decades. Probably will continue decades longer. Also shared the sautéed cabbage side. Not something we would have ordinarily ordered. However, it was a nice change from mushrooms, or asparagus. The added mix-in of the egg yolk really added richness to this dish. At the suggestion of our waiter, Daniel, we had the house-made chocolate toffee with a glass of Port. Thin sheets of dark chocolate & chunks of toffee. Yes. It was great. Nice job Daniel. This is Portland's version of Peter Luger. Has that old steakhouse vibe. Dark, cozy, & comfortable. Makes you feel like ordering a martini or an old fashion. Great place to have a well prepared steak dinner. Friendly staff. Well versed waitstaff. Attentive restaurant managers. This place is gold.
Everytime I come here it is always a wonderful experience.
The food is beyond worth the price but the hospitality does not compare to any other steakhouse in Portland. Todd was our waiter tonight and I can't say enough good things about him. Onion rings and onion soup are a must!
Place never disappoints! Classic steak house with great
Place never disappoints! Classic steak house with great wine selection. Onion rings and prime rib are truly first rate!
We recently came to Portland for my sister's bachelorette.
She loves steakhouses and so when I found out that RingSide Steakhouse is the oldest steakhouse in Portland, I knew we had to come here. Online the reservations portal only allows for reservations for party of seven or less. Eight or more, you have to email them. So I did and got my options. When I let them know that I was just interested in dining in the main area they did that for me. They called me the day before our reservation to confirm. When we arrived we were greeted immediately. When we sat down our server was great. He explained the menu and answered all our questions. The majority of our group got the ribeye for two and split them. And the nice part is the restaurant splits and serves it on separate plates. We also ordered a large order of onion rings for the table. We also ordered several sides to share amongst the table. We ordered the cabbage, pole beans, lobster mashed potatoes, and Korean spiced heirloom carrots. I got the crab cakes as my meal. All the food was good. The ribeye comes with one choice of a side. The ribeye was tender and everyone's was cooked just the way they asked. The dessert was delicious. They also sent the crème brûlée free of charge since we were celebrating. The chocolate mousse was so good. The banana ice cream was so good and it worked with the whole dessert. The cheesecake was good too.
Going back again & again.
Great atmosphere & service. French onion soup, lobster mashed potatoes & crème brûlée absolutely delicious! Nice valet parking.
Ringside…Nice Wine List & Service!
Ringside has a fabulous wine list, including half bottles. They also have excellent staff and a wonderful wine sommelier. I sat in the lounge area and enjoyed a beet salad. While I looked forward to the prime rib, it was super dry. The staff graciously replaced it with a petite filet. The filet was very good. This is your typical old school steakhouse with excellent service.

The service and the FOOD were outstanding! The best part of it, was not having to fight for a parking spot. The valet is top tier! Had me feeling like VIP! The ceviche was FIRE! I will be back with my family next time!

This Steakhouse was established over 80 years ago, and is now with the third generation of the same family. So unusual in these times. Just goes to prove that if you have a success, you keep going. It's just a bit special. Ambience, service, and food is first class. The staff are all very professional, and seem genuinely happy to be of service, creating such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Katie and Todd especially. I had the Puget Sound Oysters, House Caesar Salad, and the 10oz Filet Mignon. All perfectly prepared and served. The freshly prepared horseradish I took as an extra nearly blew my head off. Beware! A perfect dining experience that I will definitely repeat.
Everything we put into our mouths tasted amazing.
We made reservations a couple weeks in advance. They called ahead to confirm and I had to ask about parking - they have their own valet private lot. The dark wood features and fireplace and decor made for a cozy atmosphere. We were seated in a booth and offered delicious sourdough bread. We got a small basket of their fried French onion rings that were so dang good. They come with this special blue cheese dipping sauce that is to die for. I ordered the New York steak with a baked potato and it was cooked to my liking. My friend wanted hers a bit more done so she sent it back twice - I think they error on the side of under cooking it instead of over cooking. They have a terrific drink menu but I'm on antibiotics so I opened for their yummy mocktail that I would recommend if you enjoy tiki drinks. I can't wait to come back. Everyone was so nice.
Excellent service from Jason.
The food was perfectly prepared and presented. Definitely recommend.
Food and service were amazing, came from Ca and this place
Food and service were amazing, came from Ca and this place did not disappoint at all. Very cute spot for a date night
If you are looking for a old school New York style steak
If you are looking for a old school New York style steak house this is your place! The service is great, very attentive with a lot of personality. The dry aged steaks are amazing paired with their amazing loaded Baked Potato. That coupled with their specialty Onion Rings and the impeccable Cesar Salad! Enjoy!
This is one of the best steak houses I've ever been to.
There're staff was excellent and on top of everything couldn't have asked for a better experience. Had a bone in ribeye and fried chicken. Both were excellent. And the atmosphere is everything you want in a steak house. Definitely will be my go to place when I go into the city for a nice dinner!!
Great onion rings but they need to offer dipping sauces
Great onion rings but they need to offer dipping sauces like ranch or blue cheese. I don't care for their house sauce!
Service and Food was wonderful.
However, there was a table with loud children which was a put off and rather annoying experience. Paying quite a bit for a dinner it somewhat ruined it for us - I'd think people should either go elsewhere or get a babysitter.
First timer here.
There's valet or you can park on the street. Atmosphere is pretty nice, very dim lights inside. While you wait on your table you can sit at the bar and start pre gaming, I guess lol. The food was delicious, I got the lobster mashed potatoes and it was amazing. The wagyu and Scallops was also delicious. They also have delicious cocktails, very strong for my taste. Staff was wonderful and knowledgeable. Will definitely come back because celebrities come here.
What a wonderful experience for a birthday dinner.
The food and service is the best!! Tyler, our server, made our dinner a fun event. Our party of four all had different steaks and all were prepared perfectly. We also had their famous onion rings as well as salads and soups. I can't wait to go back again.
Prime rib special terrible
Had prime rib special. Though in the past we've had some great steak dinners there, but this special was pretty much inedible, super salty, low quality. I had an email response from the "Assistant General Manager" who said he would get back to me, but I never heard from him again. The service at this restaurant is quite good, but not good enough to outweigh this prime rib special and the dinner tab. All in all, a very disappointing experience after patronizing this restaurant for many years in the past.
Classic steakhouse at historic restaurant
My recent visit to Ringside Steakhouse was a pure delight. The historic ambiance, exceptional service from our waitress in black tie, and outstanding seafood appetizers set the stage for a memorable evening. The steaks were perfection, desserts sinful, and the wine list impressive. Ringside is a must for those seeking a classic and exquisite dining experience.
Great steakhouse
It’s a very unassuming building but inside it’s a great traditional steakhouse. Great steaks, good service and the onion rings may be the best I’ve ever had.
Culinary Excellence!
An incredible dining experience! Terrific ambiance, super-professional wait staff ( Scott is a gem), beautifully staged, and perfectly cooked filets. Every aspect of the dining experience is polished and shiney!
this was last summer, I just went again and they changed
this was last summer, I just went again and they changed the way they make it it's burnt and surrounded with beans. I was disappointed.
We love LOVE Ringside, we usually sit AT the bar we so can
We love LOVE Ringside, we usually sit AT the bar we so can chat with Jimmy. Last night's experience was in a restaurant-side booth, which is the next best option. However, the hovering and constant "taking away" of plates and almost-anxious removal of bread basket and onion ring plate (with food still present) had us exasperated! At one point we said "stop, we're good!" So NEXT time, as I am a devoted Ringside fan, we will give our expectations for the dining experience, on OUR terms. "If we need something, we'll let you know!" The over-hovering was an experience killer, the constant conversation interruptions were intolerable. So, please Ringside, let your guests enjoy their meal and conversations.
Bring Back Happy Hours
3/17/2023 It is high time, COVID being OVER, that the late evening operating hours once so convenient for any number of people and reasons, are restored. Along with that, the Happy Hours, once one of the best locally, need to be restored. Dont hand out any "corporate speak" nonsense in a review "responce". Just get it done. Now. This means you Peterson.

Onion rings, wedge salad, and the Tomahawk.
One of the best steak house experiences I've had.
I was pretty upset that they managed to upsell my dining
I was pretty upset that they managed to upsell my dining partner on this special olive wagyu beef that they had for a limited time. And we were already in a bad mood for totally unrelated purposes...But all that foolishness stopped when the food actually arrived. Why?My bone-in ribeye was the stuff of legends. But the star...That olive-fed wagyu. It was absolutely excellent. One of the best custs of meat we've had in a long time. Thanks for that... and don't sleep on those onion rings or desserts either.
Classic steakhouse.
Great service. Good food. Not very innovative. Ambiance, very traditional. Loved how everyone said thank you on our way out.
Old school mood, check.
Low lighting and waiters in blacks and whites, check. Such a steakhouse that there are few vegetarian options, check!Went here with vegetarian hubs and got the filet with mash, most excellent! Hubs got a bunch of sides, also most excellent. Were they veggies swimming in butter and delicious? Yes. Can they do better, yes!! Hubs' company had their holiday dinner at a competitor steakhouse because they offered vegetarian entrees and not just a bunch of sides thrown together. Yes I get that you're an old school steakhouse but you can serve greater Portland better by offering more for the non- carnivores or this place will miss out!
My bf surprised me with reservations here for my birthday.
I was so impressed with their welcoming service to all. We rarely ever eat so fancy. The ambience was beautiful and romantic, the service from walking in to our server was great. The food was absolutely delicious. Prices reflect there wonderful food. I ordered a New York center cut and my bf ordered a filet mignon. There Cesar salad was yummy. It was my first time trying crème brûlée and it was delicious. We loved this spot and will definitely want to come here again for another occasion. I highly recommend getting a reservation as they are usually booked. We booked a late one and it was still perfect.
We went for a birthday dinner.
It was a nice venue but many mishaps. It's supposed to be a Portland institution very highly rated however the Prime rib which I ordered as Medium rare was definitely Well done. Sad! The waiter never checked on us after the delivery of the meal so we weren't able to tell anyone about it. For the price it just wasn't worth it. The onion rings were good I've had better. What was especially upsetting was when we left the Valet asked "how was the meal" and we said prime rib was overcooked and he said they do that intentionally bc otherwise it's not cooked enough to render the fat. Then why did they let me order "medium rare"?!?!? What a waste!
One ring to rule them all.
One ring to find them. One ringside steakhouse that will take you on a journey to an incredible food experience.First time to ringside, I give my car keys to the valet. And then onto the restaurant. The entrance is on the side of the road, which looks a bit conspicuous. However, you enter the wooden doors and you are brought into an ambiance of a quiet and intimate setting. My wife and I ordered the apple fed wagyu with lobster tail, mashed potatoes and onion rings. I was very impressed by the service and quality of the onion rings and mashed potatoes. The lobster tail was juicy and filling. Amazing! The highlight; the tip of the spear; the climax of the meal was the apple-fed wagyu. Each bite was so delicious and rich that it made you pause and ponder. Literally, you saw and tasted that the Lord was good. Oh my, the marble on the meat just melted in your mouth the moment the meat touches the tip of your tongue. When you are finished with your meal, you will leave very satisfied. And then you begin to wonder when you will come back on this adventure.
top notch steak house
the place to go for a special occasion and celebrate great happenings. the onion rings are out of this world
Just a reminder that it's hard to hit a home run every time
Just a reminder that it's hard to hit a home run every time at bat. We love this place and make a point of going whenever we find ourselves in Portland. However, our last visit was the FIRST time we had issues. I had the "Aged Bone In Ribeye". The steak was perfectly cooked, but the fat content was on the extreme side leaving very little in terms of red meat. The wife had the "Choice Filet" and it was a tad bit tough when compared to the fork tender offerings she had on prior visits. We ordered the large onion rings for an appetizer just so we could take some home and did the same with the dessert menu. The service was excellent, and we will definitely be back.
Omg!! Food was amazing.
The onion rings was delicious! Definitely will bring going back.
Not Returning
After being patrons for over 15 years, we will not be returning. Our server, Susan, was incredible in all ways, but the rest of our experience was incredibly disappointing. We received our steaks (filet & prime rib) which were both ordered medium. We were asked to cut into our steaks to make sure they were to our liking. We have been here many times over the years and found this very odd. Do they not have confidence anymore in their kitchen? The prime rib was partly medium, but mostly undercooked, while the filet was not even rare. The filet was sent back and returned still undercooked, along with a very dried out baked potato. The person, Christine (I believe) who brought the steak was incredibly rude and abrupt. She asked if the steak was to our liking and we mentioned it was still under. She rudely said something like, "Every house is different" referring to the color and doneness of the steak. She also reiterated it would cook more after it sat more on the tray. We were treated like we knew nothing and were in the wrong. If I'm paying $80 for a steak, I would sure hope the kitchen would know how to cook it. We overheard other diners being asked to cut into their steaks to make sure they were correct, making it seem even more like something was amiss. We mentioned to Susan what happened, and she had somebody else come over and apologize, which was nice, but still frustrating. They did give us free dessert, but our evening was already ruined by being accosted by Christine(?). After more than 15 years frequenting Ringside as a special occasion go-to, we will be looking elsewhere for our premium dining experience.
Great Food and Service
This was a birthday dinner for me. I went with my significant other and we had a great time. The service was exceptional as was the dinner and decor . Valet parking was a plus and they also gave excellent service.
A learning experience
We were seated at a small table there were 4 of us and two of us over 6ft and 200 lbs. we asked the hostess if she had a larger table and she said she didn’t. When the waiter came to take our order he immediately ask us if we would like a larger table? Yes thank you! The service was great and everyone’s food was excellent except for mine. I had order the dry aged prime rib eye. The steak looked amazing grilled with a perfectly brown outside. The problem was that the steak had so much fat that at least 50% of it was uneatable and because it had such a great color to the outside it was impossible to tell the lean from the fat until I had taken a bite. The waiter did notice how fat it was apologized and offer to comp out onion rings. I worked in the meat business for 40 years and I understand the a prime cut of rib eye can have a lot of fat. In my opinion the chef should of never served that steak to anyone. My bad for not sending it back! That being said The Ring Side is a Portland tradition and almost always a great dining experience.
Great steaks, terrible chicken
My fried chicken, something Ringside crows about, was way overcooked and dried out. For the second time. No place better for steaks and onion rings, but a two time loser with their chicken. At these prices they really need to address that. The pieces were totally unrecognizable, too.
What happened to Ringside?
The food was meh. Nothing was great, and this used to be our favorite restaurant in Portland. The service was lovely, but we were seated at a table that was too small for our party and that was also disappointing. We scheduled our reservation a few weeks in advance. If they’re going to charge $75 per steak, they’re going to have to up their food quality and offer more comfortable dining. We won’t be back unless things improve.
