Was our go too sushi spot.
. we showed up at 6:34 on a Sunday night to order a few rolls of sushi to go and get a drink at the bar while we waited.. the hostess told us that they won't do takeout after 6:30 on the weekends and would not make an exception
Amazing
Absolutely the best sushi in Austin. Uchi in Houston is better surprisingly Great atmosphere and service Just go you wonโt be disappointed
If you want great fresh sushi go here.
It rivals Uchi but so much easier to get into. The service is great every time.
Amazing!
Just had dinner here for the first time and itโs by far my favorite sushi restaurant and possibly my favorite restaurant period ! While the food was amazing what set it apart was Julianna ! Her advice was outstanding and what a pleasant person so I highly recommend the restaurant and ask for Julianna!
This has become one of my favorite sushi spots in Austin.
I like the ambiance and the service has always been good when I have gone. I love their rolls and nigiri.

We came here for dinner on a Thursday night and it was pretty packed, so be sure to make a reservation! The entrance is very discreet and you'll feel like you're walking into the back of a restaurant, which gives it a speakeasy vibe. The lighting inside is very dim besides the kitchen. The seating setup is kind of interesting, there's counter seating right in front of the sushi chefs but it's too low to watch them work. Behind the counter seating is bar seating that's higher up with barstools, and then there are booths along the wall as well. I liked sitting at the counter since it felt a little more private than the bar seating behind it. Our server was very friendly and happy to give recommendations. They were very attentive throughout the meal and made sure we always had water and drinks. The standout dishes we ordered were: - Grilled Edamame: Normally, edamame wouldn't be my first choice to order, but I actually thought this one was really good! They char the edamame in the shell so you get a bit of a smoky flavor when you eat it. - Steamed Egg Custard: I saw someone recommend this in their review and I was skeptical but had to try it. The custard is served in a bowl separate from the toppings, and you're supposed to mix it together before eating. This was actually my favorite dish of the night! It's super creamy and the seafood gives it a flavor almost like clam chowder. I highly recommend it! - Calamari Tempura: This calamari had a really nice, light batter and was perfectly crispy. The pieces weren't too chewy like some other calamari can be. Overall, I enjoyed the food here but I preferred the appetizers over the sushi itself. I would definitely return for the egg custard!

Great vibe and food! Can't wait to go back and try more of the menu. Great house cocktails too and location!
Food and service was awesome.
The restaurant itself is beautiful. Finding parking was a nightmare.

Tucked away on South Congress, this has become one of my favorite date night spots. Pro-tip: if you're ordering nigiri, ask to have it "dressed"! They'll add some simple ingredients like scallions or miso to boost the flavor of the fish. Yum!

The Good: :: it's a local business :: was easy to get in :: lots of options on the menu :: service was friendly :: lots of food options :: lots of drink options The Bad: :: extremely expensive for what you get. seems the focal point here is the vibe. super trendy and borderline obnoxious vibe. great food and a solid vibe aren't mutually exclusive. feels like folks who come here go to be seen. i just want to eat delicious food and have delicious drinks accompany it...call me old and/or old-fashioned :: service could be slow at times. i'm sure the staff was busy--please consider hiring more people! :: the food just did not blow me away. it was frankly forgettable. we ordered stuff across the menu, covering different categories. meh. i remember leaving the restaurant trying to think of the 1 thing that left me impressed. nada. The Ugly: :: was super crazy loud, yo. was so hard to hear my dining guests in our conversations. why are we trying to make this a sushi meets club scene?! Would I go back? Nope. With all the amazing places in town where I can get omakase, I see zero need to come back here for any reason. This place is OUT.
Leave it to Siri to correct my spelling.
This place place looks great and is a nice dig in this side of town. (Not dogs). Neighborhood sushi was a pretty good experience. It's very touristy and trendy. I felt the service was very nice and friendly the wait time for food to arrive want that bad. I will say it was expensive for the value it's probably because this is on S. Congress servicing the tourists. We decided that we would come back for another experience because we liked the atmosphere and the food was very good here.
Lovely lunch
First time here. Big sushi eater. Ambiance is great. Service was top notch. Great menu variety and reasonably priced. We would go back!
My new favorite sushi bar in Austin
The bento box was such an awesome pick. The snow crab roll and spicy tuna hand rolls were amazing. The tuna was so vibrant and fresh! The Seaweed salad was delicious with just a little spice kick at the end, and the saffron on top elevated the salad. The drinks are delicious too! The app (tempura) was light and not greasy like most places. I went back twice in one week, so happy with this new find.

We were looking around for some good sushi around soco and we're deciding on this place and robot - we ultimately decided to spend a bit more for the ambience and opted for neighborhood sushi. Neighborhood sushi is an upper scale sushi restaurant. The waitstaff are incredibly friendly and the restaurant is clean with wonderful modern Japanese aesthetic. I loved the decor, glasses, and all the plates and presentations. For the food: this is definitely a higher price sushi restaurant, and I'm not sure if it's completely worth the price hike. Don't get me wrong, I'm used to spending more money for higher quality sushi, but I'm afraid this does miss the mark just a bit. For $21 for a tuna tempura shrimp roll, you'd expect a bit more than what we got - perhaps more tuna, or thicker rolls. All that to say, it was okay, but was it worth $21 compared to 14-15 somewhere else? The nigiri sushi are relatively well-sized, but again, compare to Japan or other higher end sushi restaurants where you are served large pieces of fresh sashimi, we felt a bit short changed by the small pieces on top. The hand rolls are not your classic Japanese style hand rolls, but rather served in awkwardly sized nori that is very difficult to hold let alone to eat. There's a reason we roll our hand rolls up - it's for ease of eating! Not here - expect it to be messy! The sashimi was fine - again, yes the fish is pretty good and fresh, but pieces way too small. Will we be back? Probably for the ambience if we're ready to spend more for less food. But for the food itself? Probably not.

i loved my first experience here at neighborhood sushi! my partner and i went here on the whim around 7:45pm on a sunday, and got a seat at the bar within 15 minutes. kurt made our first time wonderful with his drink + sushi recommendations and overall kindness! i ordered a suki suki cocktail- if you like something sweet and not too strong like me, this is a great drink to get!! we first tried the truffled beech mushrooms tempura - super savory with some tempura sauce and a creamy sauce that complemented it well; i highly recommend this for a unique tempura! we also had multiple kinds of nigiri: fatty salmon, yellowtail belly, tasmanian trout, miso cuttlefish, and barnegat light scallop. the barnegat light scallop was to die for- we ordered it twice!! overall, we really loved our experience and will definitely come back again to the neighborhood~

Go here if you want to have all of your food delivered at the same time after waiting for an hour after placing your order (super fun with multiple hot dishes!). Sushi and sashimi was uniformly average, tempura was poor, but the yellowtail collar was pretty great. Nice that they have Asahi on tap but not nice that it's served in ridiculous caveman mugs. Whatever you do, skip their so-called kakigori abomination which has nothing at all to do with the delicious Japanese shaved ice treat of the same name. Will not return or recommend.

My first time at Neighborhood, it's hard to spot the place!
My first time at Neighborhood, it's hard to spot the place! It looks so unassuming from the Soco side with just some foreign symbols, and you actually enter through the back in an alley. Making a reservation was pretty easy, and we sat at the sushi bar. We ordered the birds nest salad which was refreshing and crunchy. We also had to try their oysters, pricy but delicious! We tried numerous nigiri options, they had a good list! The king crab was hyped up but too dry in our opinion. The couple next to us said they come to Neighborhood a lot and gave us a recommendation on a roll. We ordered that one along with 2 hand rolls. My boyfriend and I love trying sushi spots around town, and we would definitely recommend this one!
Ate at Neighborhood Sushi last night.
The food was good, even great for some dishes. I liked the decor. However the service was really poor and put a damper on the experience. The hostess and host were very rude and mean from the beginning when I couldn't find parking. The server seemed to forget that we existed most of the night and I spent a lot of time trying to flag down someone. They lost one of our dishes at one point. Unfortunate since it was my boyfriends birthday. I would not return to this place.
Great service and amazing ambiance.
But the food is very average, which is frustrating considering how expensive it is...hence the reason for my rating. I was left very unimpressed and underwhelmed (and still hungry!) by the yellowtail roll (the rice was overcooked and overseasoned), the scallop handroll (so much sauce you couldn't even taste the fish), and the squid sashimi (did not taste fresh). The miso soup is good, but $10 for miso soup?! I echo what some other reviewers have stated -- you're paying of the location and the aesthetic. Also, FYI to those who miss it on the reservation page -- the front door is in the back of the alley, which I think is cool and different. There's a parking lot and typically ample parking in the neighborhood behind the restaurant. In all, there are much better sushi spots in Austin -- both upscale and more affordable options.

We came here for an early dinner on Saturday night and left feeling underwhelmed and vaguely annoyed. First thing to know: entrance is through the parking lot, so don't bother trying to make your way through the hipster hordes congregating outside of June's. The aesthetic in here is a pleasant minimal-inviting and we enjoyed sitting at one of the elevated booths. The suki suki cocktail was good but didn't taste like it had much saki in it. Our daughter got a matcha lemonade that was unique, and there is a good selection of beers. Apps were the best part of the meal. We started with the grilled edamame, neighborhood salad, seaweed salad, and the fish collar. Everything was excellent. We've never seen our kid eat so much salad even though it was the run-of-the-mill greens+tomatoes/carrots+ginger dressing formula that you see everywhere. Still, it was satisfyingly good. The fish collar was particularly impressive and cooked to a tee with the most bangin' accompanying sauce. The sushi was particularly *un*impressive and for the price point, shockingly so. The avocado nigiri was boring because there was a teensy amount of the caper-wasabi relish on top that had initially intrigued us. We ordered three rolls: the spicy tuna, fluke, and wagyu. All three were under seasoned and nothing tasted fresh. The $33 wagyu was offensively priced for how mediocre it was and their alleged "signature roll"--the fluke--was average at best. Tuna was whatever--you've had it somewhere else, then you've had it here. Our waitress had a haughty manner that we did not enjoy and this place also loves to overzealously clear plates when you're still not yet finished with something. Also, and this was bizarre, someone at the host stand bang-knocked on the bathroom door when one of us was helping our daughter in the ladies room. Just: what? So, all in all, no thanks. This is at about the same level as Kome, but not even as good and far more expensive. You can have a better meal there or at Musachino, but if you don't mind spending extra bucks to be among the glitterati on South Congress, then by all means go here. We won't be back again.
Mediocre at best and quite pricy.
You're paying for the location and decor. I wouldn't put it in my top 10 In Austin's for sushi. Heck, my go to place in Oak hill blows this place out. You can get the same sushi or better in a strip mall type place
