Visited this restaurant for the first time yesterday to celebrate a friend's birthday. From the moment we entered until we left, the experience was amazing. The menu is not extensive however you can tell great thought has been put in the tapas and large shareable items on it. We started with the following small plate items: seared scallops, tuna poke tacos and tandoori spiced cauliflower. All were incredibly seasoned and presented but the standout was the tacos. Absolute perfection! Our large share item was the paella. The rice was good perfectly and the seafood - flounder, mussels and shrimp were fresh and prepared well. I'd certainly visit again there are so many other items on the menu I'd like to try!
This place fucking rules.
Great food, great vibes, great bartended. Would recommend for breakfast lunch or dinner.

After touring the museums upstairs, we swung in for an early dinner (with no reservations) on a Saturday night... Since the weather was good, we opted for patio dining...with great views of uptown Charlotte. Both indoors or out, ambiance is simply A-Plus! Their menu isn't extensive, but what they have are pretty exciting...all very global fusion. I could be wrong, but it seemed they changed up a few things since our last visit. For instance, they no longer feature this amazing red mushroom dessert. This time, we decided to share their huge skillet of "Gullah Paella"...which was shockingly good!! Possibly the best version of "Paella" I've ever had?!? We also shared the Street Corn Fritters and the Tandoori Spiced Cauliflower...and both were beyond delish! Same verdict on the dessert, Portokalopita. Amazing cocktails, Catawba Colada, too! EVERYTHING was blissfully good....like WOW. BTW, service was really good...and I absolutely loved their sophisticated metro overhead music. This was my 3rd time here...and I'm now fully convinced that this is one of my (if not THE?!?) favorite restaurants in Charlotte. PS***I"m not docking any stars, but in retrospect and looking at the pictures of the foods, the presentation was a bit sloppy. I think they could have tried a bit harder.
Got a giftcard here and took my in-laws out to dinner.
WOW was this an incredible meal. The food was incredibly high quality, the space was funky and cool with great views. The service was normal - nothing to write home about - but honestly I care way more about the food than the service. The food will keep me coming back.
Such a beautiful restaurant!!! I highly recommend the corn
Such a beautiful restaurant!!! I highly recommend the corn fritters and the salmon!!! I love the drinks as well!! The staff is always nice and welcoming!! The only thing I do not like is the parking. I pay $21 each time I visit. That is not a reflection of the restaurant but I definitely need to figure out a better parking arrangement. Go check Mariposa out!!
Went to Mariposa for lunch on a Saturday.
It was unusually slow (according to the staff). I sat at the bar and got to enjoy some very nice live music. The atmosphere is elegant but relaxed. The staff is attentive. The food is tasty. I ordered the Burratta and it was just right. I asked the bartender, Katie, to make me her favorite drink. She made her own creation, a muddled basil, lemon drop gin martini. Talk about a perfect pairing for my meal! Wow. I will definitely go back when I get a chance.

It's a nice place if you want bugs in your food and you want to crunch on bugs while you eat. Well...this is what happened to me on my first experience there. I attended brunch this morning with a reservation for 12:45pm. The atmosphere was great, the music was nice, the service was pretty decent. Our server opened a bottle of champagne and we proceeded to order. My order was off the brunch menu. I got a cobb salad, hold the bacon and blue cheese crumbles. When the food came out, my salad had everything on it so my server took it back. It came out, I started eating it. As I was well into eating my salad, the person I was with jumped and made a face pointing at my salad. His look was in disgust. There was a roach crawling in my salad. I immediately jumped out my chair, got my server and showed it to her and said I was leaving and not coming back to this establishment. I don't think there's ever an excuse for something as disgusting as this to ever happen. I hope this reaches the right person and get an inspection done because this is problematic.
Mariposa has been on my list to try for a while and I'm so
Mariposa has been on my list to try for a while and I'm so disappointed I waited so long to get there. The decor and ambiance is wonderful! Our server was phenomenal. He was knowledgeable about food allergies and wine, funny and helpful! The manager was also wonderful. Now, the food, was amazing! I try octopus at every restaurant that otters it and this was my favorite octopus dish I've ever tried. We had the duck arepas, the scallops which were delicious, the short ribs were the most tender and delicious I've ever had and the cauliflower. My husband and I are self proclaimed foodies and both agree that it was in our top meals we have ever had, especially with a food allergy
Strangely Uneven
We expected a fine dining experience but the food was uneven and the physical environment and the sequence of the courses felt uncomfortable. At first, we were seated at a table that had a couch on one side and a chair on the other. The person sitting on the couch could not easily sit up to the table to eat and looked like a small child compared to the person in the chair. We asked for a high top instead. At the high top, our first course was a tomato, cucumber, and feta salad, which would have been nice if the tomatoes had been grown where they were in season. They were not. The chef should have removed this dish from the menu until good tomatoes could be sourced. I felt the staging of the dishes was for the convenience of the kitchen and not for our comfort. We had asked for our warm dishes to be served all at once after the salad in order to be shared as an integrated meal. The waiter assured us this would be done. But we had just started in on the salad when the warm potato dish was served. We sent it back. Then all three warm dishes arrived while we still had the half-eaten salad dish, our two plates, and our drinks on the small high top. I asked the waiter, "So where do you expect to put those?" He took them back. After we finished the salad, the warm dishes came back, this time lukewarm. The branzino and the mixed vegetables were quite tasty even when lukewarm. The potatoes clearly would have been better when they came off the stove. For dessert, we had a pink grapefruit sorbet and a chocolate chili gelato. The sorbet was the winner. The gelato was a nice concept but was way more creamy and heavy than either of us expected based on our experiences elsewhere. We won't be back.

First time in Charlotte and came here after a friend got engaged. The Lamb burger was nothing short of amazing with the hand cut. And the Martini was amazing. Will definitely return next time I'm in town. Thanks again Andrew and O'neal for assisting with the reservations for a large party at the last minute
Caught the tail end of Sunday's brunch at Mariposa and I
Caught the tail end of Sunday's brunch at Mariposa and I was pleasantly surprised for my first time! I had the shrimp and grits and started with the corn fritters! Both were delicious! We were greeted when we walked in and our waitress was so nice and attentive! Service was great! The restaurant was inside the Mint Museum so the ambiance was excellent! Beautiful decor! The only negative is the space is extremely small; the couches sit very low and the chair sit high so for a table of 2 it was a little awkward but based on the food and service (and the great prices!) I will def return!
Surprising find at an art museum
Looking for a bite to eat before seeing the Mint Museum, I decided to just go to the museum cafe. I was expecting the usual blandness, but was amazed to find this fantastic restaurant. Great food, amazing views, beautiful decor- and live jazz at the Sunday brunch.
So the ambiance is nice.
Pretty fancy and not what I was expecting as they were playing cute like songs in a vibey uptown restaurant so that was kinda weird to me. The service is good. They were accommodating as we wanted to move tables due to it being close to the balcony. Server wasn't as attentive. But front desk host were nice. The food there I would not recommend. We had the paellla and it was way overcook and too small for 42$, I definitely would prefer and recommend bulla for anyone wanting paella. The drinks were good and strong. I would only go back for the drinks. It was a little hard to find at first but finally found my way. They don't have their own parking so you would have to pay to park in uptown. I would not come back for the price. Just another overprice uptown restaurant serving not good food.
We have been trying to get here for the longest.
Finally made it for brunch and it was worth it. The ambiance is super cute. The waitstaff was very attentive and helpful when it came to decisions about the food. She was very knowledgeable about different menu options as well as drinks. The food was really good. There were nice portions and very fulfilling. We will definitely be back for dinner.
Atmosphere was beautiful.
Seating was comfortable. Live jazz as delightful. Husband got the pork belly bowl. He enjoyed it but was disappointed that the menus said it came with sticky rice but what was served was over cooked short grained rice, I ordered the short rib eggs Benedict with the egg poached medium. I would not recommend this dish. It was mainly a potato pancake and the egg was cooked so little it was almost all clear snot.
After wanting to try Mariposa since they opened, we finally
After wanting to try Mariposa since they opened, we finally had a chance two years later. The Mint Museum parking garage was closed, so the Mariposa hostess called in advance of our reservation and suggested parking across the street at The Green Garage. It was close and very convenient, and only cost us $10 for two hours. We reserved a high top table, and were seated next to the bar. The seating was very comfortable, and we loved the view of Uptown and the restaurant from our table. Since Mariposa is known for their specialty cocktails, we tried a couple. My husband had the Blackberry Velvet Bramble ($18). Since I'm not a fan of overly sweet drinks, I requested a gimlet ($14 gin + $3 mixer). We enjoyed both of them, but they were more expensive than we usually pay for comparable beverages. The server suggested that we order a mix of items across the small and large shareables, as well as a side or two. Here's what we had - 1. Tuna crudo ($15) - 5/5 - This dish was exceptional, and we both loved the Asian flavors and spice level. 2. Seared Scallops ($22) - 5/5 - This was another favorite dish. The scallops were cooked perfectly, and the XO sauce was spicy. I thought it was a bacon jam originally, haha, but the topping actually included finely chopped oysters and shrimp. 3. Burrata ($16) - 3/5 - We enjoyed the burrata and pesto, but the tomatoes were a bit firm and not as ripe as we would have liked. The accompanying toasted bread was just ok. We wouldn't get this again. 4. Half Piri Piri Chicken ($18) - 2/5 - This dish included a thigh and breast. The chicken was cooked perfectly, but the chicken was EXCESSIVELY salty. I am not sure if it was because of the dry rub or brine. We definitely won't get this again. 5. Tandoori Spiced Cauliflower ($10) - 5/5 - This side was huge, and incredibly flavored. We both loved the raisins and raita. 6. Squash Casserole ($10) - 3/5 - This dish contained more homemade croutons than squash, but everything was tasty. It was just too much food for us to finish, however. We definitely had more food than we needed, and decided if we return, we'll only get two or three small shareables and one side. Service was very good, and the timing of the dishes was perfect to allow us to have one or two items to enjoy at a time. Overall, the bill was a high for the value, although we know we ordered too much. When I compare Mariposa to our favorites--Barcelona Wine Bar and Good Food on Montford--the latter two edge out Mariposa for providing a better combination of exceptional food and slightly lower pricing.
Meh. Disappointed. Nice ambiance but the food was not great
Meh. Disappointed. Nice ambiance but the food was not great considering the price point. It was just okay. Don't think I'll be back anytime soon.
I rarely write reviews but this place deserves a shout out.
From the moment we walked in the staff was warm and made our comfort top priority. We were seated at a two top close to the bar and asked by two employees if we were comfortable or preferred a different table, as there was a group waiting to be seated at the bar close to our table. We were fine with it but it was nice to be asked. To start we ordered the roasted mushrooms (amazing texture contrast with the mushrooms and creamy, savory sauce on the crispy focaccia) and the duck arepas (nice balance of savory with very slightly sweet corn base, served open face). For the main we split a generously sized short rib (more crispy on the bottom and fall apart inside) and roasted cauliflower (was skeptical about the raisins in this but WOW, knocked my socks off). Ok y'all, we almost never order dessert, but the buttermilk bacon pie...do it! The server took the time to answer all of our questions, kept the fresh silverware coming with each course, and was just a national treasure in general. Everything we ate was a slam dunk and the portion sizes were generous. The space was beautiful and modern, but cozy. This place has secured a spot in our Charlotte top 10!
Yummy food and service.
Will return soon to enjoy an amazing experience!!!!!!! Thanks
What a beautiful place and a great experience! We came here
What a beautiful place and a great experience! We came here for lunch to celebrate my friends 30th birthday and we had a great time! Our waiter was funny, attentive, helpful and kind! He recommended the best alcoholic drinks! The food was amazing! All of us enjoyed our food! The view is beautiful and the inside is decorated nicely. The bathrooms are clean. This place is such a great vibe and the music was perfect! I definitely recommend coming here for a great time and delicious food!
Great restaurant!
Great menu and food!! This was a really pleasant surprise as we had never eaten here. The service was incredibly friendly and the food was amazing!! The pulled duck arepas were simply AMAZING and the beef short rib was sublime. Great experience!
Food was very good.
We had the seafood paella and summer squash lasagne. Only complaint is that while the dishes are meant to be shareable, we had 4 in our party, and it seemed like everything had 3 of something in the order ( ex. 3 oysters in paella, 3 pitas came with appetizer) It would be nice in a shareable dish to have at least one item in each dish for everyone at the table! Service was excellent. Manager was very attentive and checked on us several times!
We visited Mariposa for lunch today.
We had enjoyed the prior restaurant Halcyon operated by the same owners in this same location. The variety of lunch entrees was diverse offering patrons many choices. My husband has the Spicy Pork Belly Bowl which he enjoyed very much. I had the fish and chips which were good but the tartar sauce was the highlight of my dish. Our server Erica was helpful and attentive. I didn't provide a 5 star rating due to the seating format. While the appearance of the seating concept is pleasing to the eye the sofas used as table seating and the tables themselves were not comfortable. When Halcyon occupied the space the tables were so unique having been made, or so I was told, from old growth trees from Queens Road. After the trees fell they were made into table tops. The seating at those tables were comfortable upholstered chairs. Sometimes striking interior design is more esthetically pleasing than functional. We would return to Mariposa but I think we would consider sitting at the bar to ensure a more comfortable experience. Perhaps if you're simply meeting friends for a drink and don't mind sharing a sofa with others you don't know you may find this more appealing than we did.
I love, love, love that Mariposa has live music on Sundays
I love, love, love that Mariposa has live music on Sundays during brunch. It's a nice touch.Plates are small but shareable and the mimosas are wonderful. Service is good and the atmosphere and decor pass the vibe check. Folks who eat at Mariposa probably consider themselves fancy in some form or fashion- if this is you, this is a spot you should check out. Do not come here expecting a Denny's Grand Slam breakfast!

I had the best salmon I have ever had here! Delicious from the wood fire oven. Salad was light and citrusy and my mock tail was so good! My server was so sweet too. Very good experience.
Went here for my birthday with my wife.
Super cool atmosphere, very modern. Good cocktails, and very interesting menu. We had the corn fritters, pork belly lettuce wraps, arepas, foie gras, chicken skewer, piri piri, Greek potatoes, and the sticky toffee pudding. All outstanding. Good service, attentive but not intrusive. Overall one of the best restaurants we've been to in Charlotte. Will definitely be back!

My group of five ladies loved everything we had, and the service was great! We had Tuna crudo, Street corn fritters, Pulled duck arepas, Tandoori spiced cauliflower, Squash casserole, Roasted vegetables, Grecian potatoes, Olive focaccia; shrimp, lamb, and chicken kabobs. We had twelve (two of the tuna) dishes between us and it was perfect. So plan for about 2/pp depending on if you're getting small or large shareables. My personal favorites were the Tuna crudo, Squash casserole, Grecian potatoes, and the Olive focaccia. As a group, the Tuna crudo was our stand-out dish. Our one negative: We all agreed that the lamb kabobs were delicious but so tiny it made us think they must have started to run out and were stretching it. We also agreed that one dish that included all three types of kabobs would have been nice instead of ordering one stick at a time. The cocktails were perfect and strong. We had the Viracocha and the Bride D'Hiver. Our server also recommended a spectacular champagne (technically a Champenoise from California), Paula Kornell. We all snapped a photo of it. Excellent choice. We all are looking forward to returning with our husbands for date nights!
Excellent.
Can't wait to go back. Everything we had was perfect. Definitely will be craving the spicy cauliflower. Loved the different serving sizes from starters to shareable to main course - all at a reasonable price. The staff was on point and had a passion for their restaurant. It has been 3 yrs since I experienced 1st rate service with no excuses.
Excellent service.
Very refreshing. Tiffany in the bar area was exceptional. Thank you
I celebrated a birthday here with some cherished friends
I celebrated a birthday here with some cherished friends whom I have not seen in a while. The food and atmosphere was amazing. I felt very blessed to enjoy the evening dining at Mariposa. My only grievance is the shortness of the waiter who served my table, Rividan. He made some offensive, cynical, and snarky remarks to my guests and I. His attitude nearly ruined my special night. Perhaps he had a difficult night, and a party of 9 can be stressful. However, I expected a bit more patience and grace since he had plenty to give to other guests. If it were not for the wonderful, kind, and attentive host named Jay I would have left without ever wanting to come back. Please send my compliments to the chef and staff who work diligently to make Mariposa a pleasant experience.
We came here on a whim after dinner while we still had some
We came here on a whim after dinner while we still had some time before our show at the theater across the street. We made our way in around 6 without a reservation and they graciously sat us at the bar for drinks and a dessert. When we got there, the place wasn't super packed but by the time we left around 7, I definitely would suggest a reservation... The atmosphere is wonderful here and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. We ordered a draft beer, a mock tail, their cheesecake, and unexpectedly also an order of corn fritters. The mocktail was good and was a modification off of their gin cocktail. I wouldn't necessarily get it again as it was very syrupy but maybe stick to their menu decided cocktails. The corn fritters were absolutely delicious and we would definitely get them again. They had a great flavor and the crema was so fresh! The cheesecake had a great topping but the cheesecake itself was quite dense and flavorless. I won't leave a desert behind and definitely finished it but it kind of was a bit disappointing. Overall, the experience had left us feeling like we may have just not had a right taste of the menu and would definitely go back to try it again (and get those corn fritters for sure).
The ambience and venue was great.
The decor was amazing. The chicken biscuit is one of the best I have tried. The gravy was not too heavy and complimented the dish well. The shakshuka was good but the egg was overdone. The service was slow as I had to wait around 45 minutes to get the food. Some tables that ordered after me were getting the food earlier.
