Hestia Austin Reviews
Great service, ambiance, spot and food.
Been here couple of time now and this is one of my favorite restaurants in Austin.
Maรฎre d' James went beyond our belief for my friend's
Maรฎre d' James went beyond our belief for my friend's birthday. Unlike any restaurant we have experienced before. Truly loved his attention to detail to making her night memorable. Service is stellar! Like an orchestra in concert with each other. Staff didn't have to say much to one another to have the restaurant flow perfectly. Loved seeing their organization. Food was delicious. I recommend the tarts, the scallop, bread & butter with jam, and halibut. Drinks were tasty! The architecture and design of the building is beautiful. Love the trees in the background, feels like you are floating in them. The first smell you experience is the hearth and that sets the tone. This is a special occasion restaurant so expect a pricey night that is well worth it.
I love the creativity behind every dish.
We ordered off the menu (just two of us) and were not disappointed. My fish dish was a tad salty but nothing fatal. My biggest concern, though, is that the sommelier left the table to open the wine. Eek! Probably not a big deal to most people, but that's a big no-no in the wine world. And six weeks later I'm still thinking about it. Loved the birthday buรฑuelo.
Hestia was an unforgettable experience.
Went there recently with my wife and friends. Ambiance was unique. Restaurant was nice and modern and you could smell the smoke from the wood fired open-hearth cooking as soon as you entered. One of the things that stood out from this restaurant was the service you receive there. It was the best service I have received period. From the hosts, the servers, chefs, and even owners, everyone treats you like you are a VIP. It seemed like everyone working there truly wants to be there and that means a lot. We ordered a little bit of everything and our favorite dish was definitely the scallops cooked in beef tallow. The scallops were succulent and rich with meaty beef flavor from the tallow. Felt like you were eating a steak! Beets were delicious too and the pan de cristal was probably the best bread I've had at a restaurant. Appetizers were all 10/10 but if I had to choose one dish that really stood out it would definitely be the scallops. Entrees: we ordered the pork chops, halibut, and lions main mushrooms. Unfortunately this is where they lost a star from me personally. I know taste is subjective but I was just not impressed with the dry aged pork chops. I asked them to cook the dish how they recommended it, which was medium rare. The meat just did not have a wow factor. Maybe it was due to the dry aged process but I like my meats juicy and this fell short of my expectations. Wife ordered the lions mane mushrooms and it was almost perfect. Only thing I would ask them to change next time is to reduce the saltiness. Felt like the mushrooms really absorbed all the flavors of the dish well but it was just too salty to enjoy on its own as a main entree. Desserts: We ordered 3 different desserts and while they were all good the sour dough ice cream is a must order item. It was probably the most interesting dessert I've ever had in my life. Not saying it was the best tasting, or my favorite dessert but it really challenged your perspective on what a dessert could be. Just order it and you'll see what I mean. All in all this place is definitely a restaurant I would recommend for a special occasion or a fun night out with friends. Hats off to the staff and I thank them for an unforgettable experience.

First time here and LOVE this restaurant! Everything was perfect from start to finish. The staff were so gracious and treated everyone in my party like we were royalty. The menu is daring and delicious. I'm not sure how often the menu changes, but highly recommend the halibut, the caviar cornbread, the green beans, and the sourdough ice cream is not to be missed. The music and lighting were great. The bathroom was super clean and smelled nice. Parking was easy- garage nearby and the restaurant validated it. Most definitely will be back!

worst food experience I've had 600$ and left hungry and pissed off. Worst tasting menu over priced hype
My fiance treated me to Hestia for my birthday.
It was both our first time dining here and we were both very impressed. The ambiance is very dark, moody, and sexy. The open fire in the kitchen was beautiful and the hustle in the open kitchen was fun to watch. The wine and spirits list was impressive. I ordered an old fashioned with Basil Hayden dark rye which was smooth, sweet, and just a touch of spiciness. We shared the pan de cristal which is freshly baked sourdough and a side of strawberry compote butter. We also shared two entrees: the halibut and the berkshire pork chop. Our server explained that the halibut was delicately cooked to perfection and in browned butter. Browned butter makes anything 10x better! The pork chop was cooked medium rare which we weren't sure of but I'm glad we were wrong. The outside had just a touch of crusty char and the inside was so soft-- you probably don't even need teeth to chew it. It was indeed as our server described, "the wagyu beef of pork". Overall my experience at Hestia was wonderful from the friendly and knowledgable service to the overall ambiance. Treat yourself or loved one to this unique dining experience.
Expensive for the quality Birthday celebration for our son
Expensive for the quality Birthday celebration for our son and we read all the reviews and was looking forward but were disappointed. The food is mediocre at best and the staff tries too hard to sound articulate but comes across as not genuine. We paid well over $500 and were not satisfied. Drinks are good but not the best. Started with Oysters and tomato tart. I would skip the tart and the oysters are from the gulf coast, so that should say enough. We had 3 small plates and those were decent. The beet salad, beef tartare, and Kampachi. Beef tartare was actually very good. The halibut is the best option on main menu. Our server was ok but not the best. Seems to be too much in a hurry and rushed us. My biggest pet peeve is when the server picks up the bill before we are done! It's extremely rude and after the cost I wasn't expecting to be rushed out. Portions are small and way overpriced. There is not much to Hestia and would not recommend.

It is a rare treat when your first visit to a restaurant is 100% perfect. Tonight was one of these. The smells, atmosphere and general vibe set this restaurant apart. Walking in your senses are lit up with the lovely sell of smoke permeating the air. Then the main event comes... the food! We started with a half dozen oysters with a perfect combination of chili oil and jalapeรฑo topping. Each bite was packed with flavor and just the right amount of heat. We then had 2 small plates. The scallops and the beets respectively. The beets were refreshing and tasty. And the scallops... these are beyond good! Perfect sear and accompanied by an amazing topper. Hats off to the server who delivered them mentioning to drink up the left over topping right from the shell. We did not let a drop get missed. We then shared the halibut. Another perfect item. I'll let the picture of this one do the talking. Finally the ice cream dessert was served in a unique way that made it a fun eat. We then moved onto t
One of the best restaurants I've eaten at in a long time.
The food, service, atmosphere and presentation were spectacular. This is not your average fine dining establishment. Every dish is presented with care and the utmost regard for the guests taste. The drink and wine selection was up to par as well. Their over the fire cooking was definitely appreciated on the sirloin and pork chop. All that said the piece that stood out to me the most was the service that went far and beyond anything that I was expecting. I cannot recommend this place enough it's amazing.
Delicious food from appetizers to main. Deserts only ok but others were amazing!
Extremely delicious food and staff nice but not genuine. We were disappointed that everyone we encountered from the hostess desk till our order asked the same question as if coached. We thought we were going to be dissatisfied with the meal but the chefs made it up to us in a delicious assortment of everything we ordered. The food speaks for itself so the staff needed to be less coached on โwhat to sayโ. BY the 4th time asked the same question we were convinced this was going to be a disappointment. But I canโt stress enough, ignore the fluff and enjoy the food as we did. Amazing meal and location nice but took an Uber from our centrally located hotel. In the end, almost 5 star, just tone a down a bit at the beginning !
Had been wanting to dine at Hestia since moving to atx.
From several sources, Hestia was highly regarded and recommended! Well, we finally scored a reservation and got to have date night/early birthday celebration last night. Their staff was absolutely top tier and you could immediately tell. Hestia was also moody, romantic, and inviting. We ordered a la carte: scallops and beef tartare for appetizer, halibut and Wagyu ribeye entrees, and received sourdough ice cream as a treat! Ahem, what rock have we been under to not have tried Hestia... until now?? Every dish was incredible. Wish we had more room in our bellies to order other dishes!! Ruben(sp?) was our server and treated us kindly and well. We thank you for an amazing evening out. Excited to try other dishes next time!
Snagged a prime Friday night reservation for a special
Snagged a prime Friday night reservation for a special occasion. Romantic, intimate setting. Tasteful decor. Moderate noise level. Service is spot-on! Massive wine list. Great cocktails. Order one of everything from the app menu to share, then decide on your entree. Definitely try the crab tarts, oysters (fabulous!) and the scallops (A-mazing!). The crudo was fresh but the citrusy sauce overpowers the delicate fish. Halibut was top notch! Perfectly cooked and that brown butter sauce is amazing! Sirloin was cooked perfectly, but in retrospect, it was just a steak. I should've tried something more adventurous from the menu. Desert was whimsical and delish! Hestia doesn't disappoint but its not mind blowing. We'll definitely come back and try some more items off the app menu.
I LOVE HESTIA.
If I ever have an excuse to spend money on amazing food, I always think of Hestia. This is also my go to date spot for events like anniversary or accomplishments. The best way to eat here is to order every small plate and one entree to share- it gives a very nice tapas-isque experience. I have never had a bad thing to say about anything I've tried here. Seafood- amazing Poultry- amazing Bread- amazing Cocktails- AMAZING Service- amazing Ambiance- a little dark but still amazing
Amazing evening at Hestia with my best friend.
They validate parking for 2 hours in their parking garage, and it was the perfect amount of time. We made a reservation a few weeks in advance and it only offered the patio as a seating option, but when we got there we were seated inside. Fine by me! When we sat down, we saw they were doing $30 martini carts and I had to partake. I learned the difference between shaken and stirred, as well as the ingredients in a Vesper: gin AND vodka. Service was great and attentive. My friend and I ordered 2 smoked crab tarts, the scallops and the pan de cristal, the halibut, and then the buรฑuelo for dessert. We are from the east coast, so some seafood in TX can be ... not our favorite, but Hestia absolutely blew us away. It's hard to choose a favorite. The scallops were massive and cut into 3 bites, they tasted so buttery and had that element of mushroom gelatin which was exciting. The crab tarts are a no brainer at only $8 a pop. The halibut was so tender and meaty, didn't taste fishy at all. The bread was perfect, nice crust and so fluffy inside. Nothing was ordinary here. The dessert was so unique I don't even know how to describe it. You just gotta try for yourself! Pricy but well worth it.
Hestia was a smoke and fat heavy experience.
Most foods are cooked over open flame and there is lots of tallow cooked into the food yielding a rich and filling experience. The service is on par with that of dome michelin starred restaurants I've been to. The food was decent but still a work in progress to truly become an elevated experience. I appreciate the seasonal aspect and care taken in the dishes. They were tasty but left some to be desired. The bill not on the tasting menu wasnt terrible but definitely still a restaurant to be saved for celebrations. Wagyu steaks will always be good, the other menu items is where my focus was. The ambience and noise level was quite loud and energetic. There was a significantly large party beside us however the service was still top notch. Would try again if menu were to change. 7/10 overall. Crab tarte was 6/10. Broccoli dish was 5.5/10. Needed more char IMO. Scallop dish was very rich and scallop was cooked well but dish was a little non cohesive. Halibut was a solid 8/10. Beurre monte was a nice touch and halibut was cooked phenomenally.
amazing food, service, ambience! Highly recommend this
amazing food, service, ambience! Highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the downtown area!
My husband took me here for my birthday.
If I can give this place 10 stars I would. The foods is amazingly well done. Server is phenomenal. Well worth very dollars we spent here. I will definitely be back for special occasions.
My husband and I visited Hestia last night and I wanted to
My husband and I visited Hestia last night and I wanted to write a bit about our meal. We didn't get the Chef's tasting last night, but we will be back for it in the future. I found the food magical and adventurous. The ambiance was perfect. We sat outside and the temperature was ideal with a slight chill from the night and the warmth overhead heaters. The smell of the fire and the music was intoxicating and added to scene. We had the warm crab which was a lovely amuse-bouche, followed by the charred broccoli. We really enjoyed the broccoli with its crispy edges and citrus undertones that cut through. The caviar was served with thin, delicate crisps and atop a warm thick buckwheat pancake. It was delicious and transported me to an underwater excursion in my mind. The buckwheat pancake was delicious as a standalone and had a mild sweetness and the juxtaposition of the warm pancake against the cool deep sea caviar was fun and unexpected. The wagyu sirloin had a thick charred crust and was velvety and decadent on the inside. It was impeccably done and the celery side dishes paired well with it. The thyme ice cream inside the crunchy shell was unique, smooth, and undeniably tasty. The wine was a blend with Pinot Noir and Burgundy and was the best, lightest red I've ever tasted. Overall my experience was fabulous and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a dining experience unlike any other.
We got the prix fix dinner and every dish was amazing! My
We got the prix fix dinner and every dish was amazing! My favorites were the oyster, pork skewer (so amazingly thin and tasted almost like seafood), scallops, halibut and caviar!
I ate last week for dinner to understand why this
I ate last week for dinner to understand why this restaurant was causing a scene amongst us Austin crowd. I started off delicate with the oysters and very flavorful and rich. The oysters were fresh and I appreciated the apple ting that accompanied the dish. It was a new take and I enjoyed it. I went for the Crudo Kampachi. It was a very rich dish and I couldn't say I enjoyed it as much. The dish felt oily, the fish was fresh with the an ocean of juice floating around in the bowl. For my entree, I decided for the king trumpet mushroom. The texture was a little odd but it was the sauce off put me. It didn't pair well with the mushroom and needed something more light and delicate. However, the sides were savory, boisterous and commanded my mouths attention. That was amazing to eat. The buรฑuelo was a masterpiece of a dessert. Truly ineffable. I haven't had a dessert like that in awhile and I don't think there is one chef in Austin that can match that currently. I will be back again.
Jacob!
We love Jacob! So much fun!! We celebrated a friend's birthday and Jacob was so fantastic about celebrating with us, that we must come back! We let him take the lead by recommending all types of food, Jacob was amazing! We love Jacob!
High end dining
This is dining. A tad pretentious perhaps but extremely attentive. Each dish was unique and exciting. This comes at a cost, so be prepared for the bill. The bread and pear butter with miso reduction might be the best thing Iโve ever eaten; however, the wagyu ribeye was done perfectly in every way. It is sort of addictive. Dessert must be mentioned as sourdough ice cream with charcoal top does not sound appealing but it was remarkably fantastic and Iโll never forget it.
Friendly, personal attention and fabulous food
Loved our meal at Hestia! All plates very shareable. The scallops, halibut, and pork chop all amazing. Save room for the sour dough ice cream - different and delicious. Thank you, Paige and Albert for a wonderful evening! Weโll be back.
Should be a Michelin!!! One of the BEST dinners in Austin
Worth every $ and all the hype!!!!! Iโm a huge foodie and have tried it all, but this place really impressed me! Itโs a little hidden, we didnโt see it from the street, got confused and almost left, because there is a joint restaurant that shares bar space and serves smaller plates and tapas called Kalimotxo. Hestia is on the dressy side, dark interior and centered around the hearth. Their theme is fire and almost everything they make including some of the drinks are prepared or touched by it in some capacity. The halibut is the BEST dish on the menu, dare I say itโs probably the best one Iโve had in my life! It was moist, extremely flavorful, prepared to perfection and fell apart. Everything from the cocktails, wine, starters, and entrees exceeded my expectations, this place is a must and I would definitely return to try their chefs tasting menu, even at $195 per person. One thing to note you can only do it if the entire table participates. Service is excellent! Park in the bank building, they validate
poisoning
We went for dinner -2 persons, we had chef's choise plates with a bill of about 500$ and we went home vometing all night
Should be Michelin Star rated.
We did the tasting menu and it was amazing. A great variety of courses with foods presented in a different style and texture than what you would traditionally see. Unique and full of flavor. The sourdough ice cream was amazing. Great atmosphere and Five star service all the way!
Outstanding Experience
This restaurant is outstanding! The staff is really pleasant and very solicitous. The food. Oh the food. I wasnโt hungry enough to go with the tasting menu which was fairly priced considering the quality of the food. I opted for their ala carte menu instead. I had the potato/caviar, oysters, kampachi, scallops and the halibut for the main dish. The amount was perfect. It ended up being pricier than the tasting menu but so worth it! Everything was outstanding but the potato/caviar bite, scallops and halibut with caviar were the highlights. The sauce of the halibut was so flavorful I had to slow down my eating to savor every bite. I wish the potato/caviar was bigger. I ordered the sourdough ice cream for dessert upon the recommendation of the host. Sounded different so I was willing to try it out. It was delicious! Something different for sure, not too sweet, almost savory, but just delicious! I highly recommend Hestia when in Austin. Price point is fair for the quality of food. Will have to try the tasting menu next time. Reservations strongly recommended.
Amazing Halibut
Really enjoyed Hestia. They do a premier, signature halibut preparation that is beyond delicious. Baked in their big custom oven. Donโt miss it.
Delicious food in a great spot of Austin! I love that

This review is about a month late, but I had to marinate in it to see if my opinion changed. For a chef's tasting on Valentine's Day, I was disappointed. The tasting for two is over $500, but you don't feel like you get your money's worth compared to other similarly priced chef's tastings in Austin.Things I loved? The love letters we write at the beginning of the dinner. The impeccable service. The attentiveness of the silverware... all just very nice details. I really enjoyed some dishes like the wagyu tartare in a cupcake form and the grilled scallop. The mushroom skewer was very unfilling, but I enjoyed the DIY binchotan experience. Unfortunately, a better binchotan dish is at every omakase in Austin that has it. Things I didn't love? They immediately removed our menus so we couldn't follow along well. It's a bit too dark and a bit too loud. Some dishes were a bit disappointing, like the dumplings. Most dishes were very, very small. I've had other chef's tastings that left me at a comfortable level, but this one just left me hungry. The dessert had a literal hair in it... and lastly, the cookie box was half good half bad. Half good as in the 2 cookies were great! I loved them. Half bad as in the other four desserts are hershey's kisses and Asian candy. I was a bit upset because for what you pay, you would expect more effort in a dessert than cheap chocolate and candy that other people would pretend is "exotic". Being Asian, it's just grocery store candy to us.It would take a LOT for me to come back to this place.
Amazing service and amazing food.
The scallops were the best I've ever had. The halibut was cooked to perfection and my husband's steak was as well. The only thing I didn't like was the mushroom rilette they served with the awesome fresh baked bread.
Just finished up a dinner here.
Food is definitely above average. We ordered a great assortment of appetizers and entrees, a total of 5 dishes to share between the two of us. The crab tart was the first thing we tried and I have to say, the salt was overpowering. It was disappointing because I could tell the crab was really fresh, it's just that the salt was so strong, I feel like I paid $8 for a salt bite. The beet salad was excellent, and the scallops were excellent too, but there was only two of them for almost $30 and no sides on that dish. The steak we ordered was excellent too but the sunchoke side seemed overcooked and there just wasn't enough of it to be considered a side, more like a garnish. Overall for $65 a disappointing entree experience. We also got the maitake mushroom entree which was very good, just again, no sides and one giant mushroom on a plate for somewhere over $30. The bill came in at $185 (before tip), we had no drinks, just water and 5 dishes. We are both very small people and left still with room in our stomachs. For this amount of money, the food simply didn't do it for us. The servers describing the dishes was a nice touch, but they spoke too fast and it was too loud in there to hear anything. I left feeling like we were somewhat taken advantage of, which is a feeling I have not felt in a while. Will not be back due to food being incredibly overpriced for the portion size offered.
Crab Tarts were a great starter, I definitely could eat
Crab Tarts were a great starter, I definitely could eat like 10 of these For the oysters, I can't say the same since they weren't that freshThe crudo was such a small portion and wasn't anything extraordinary aside from the good quality of kampachiThe scallops were cooked perfectly with a nice sear yet still soft inside We ordered the halibut and 8oz wagyu bavette which were fine but the bavette was ordered medium which wasn't cooked to my liking (I didn't mind too much so that doesn't really matter) and so salty. We ordered the kakigori which was such a large portion and had the best cherry ice cream inside I've ever had. It was such a fun way to end the dining experience but I do have to mention that the shaved ice does get way too tart to finish once you've scraped off the salted cream though. Overall, really nice ambience, great view and kind staff. However, this restaurant is just too overpriced for the quality of food.

Wow Wow Wow!! We did the tasting menu and wine pairing for a friends 30th birthday. It was unreal. The service, unique bites and ambiance was incredible. Highly recommend doing it this way if you can. Everything went so great together and was so fun trying what the chef prepared
This is 100% the best dining experience I have had so far
This is 100% the best dining experience I have had so far in my 28 years of life. We ended up ordering the entire menu, and it was specially curated to come out at the perfect time. As the vegetarian in the group, every dish came with a modification for me. We had two bottles of wine that were specially chosen by a sommelier and fit our dishes perfectly. Every bite was a explosion of flavor and extremely fresh. Everything had a story, and an amazing flavor profile!
such a great spot in a prime location! we got the crudo and
such a great spot in a prime location! we got the crudo and wagyu beef tartare followed by the halibut! the halibut was definitely the star of the show served with fiddleheads and charred corn in a brown butter sauce I also love how intimate this restaurant is!
We tried the tasting menu.
Most at of the items are all amazing that you can taste contrast, developed flavor and surprised combination, only the quail dish is okay-ish. Definitely worth the money and we will come back for some of the dishes I wanted more. Great menu, great work and great staff.
Very relaxed, gorgeous restaurant.
Service is phenomenal. I been here several times, and I've never had a bad experience. Everything is absolutely delicious. Highly recommend the tasting menu. But the A La Carte options are fantastic as well.
