Girl & The Goat Chicago Reviews
We got the lemon bar dessert with strawberry gelato.
Dish was a 10/10. Although what really made our night was our bartender. Probably top 3 most interesting people my husband and I ever met and the best story teller. He really made our night and the whole dining experience fun. If you're the bartender that used to be from SD, thank you for making our night.
Will definitely be back!
Everything we had was absolutely delicious. We tried a couple of things including the zucchini bread, grilled corn, and the wood fired pork belly, but my absolute favorite was the goat empanadas. Sooo good!! We shared the blueberry polenta cake and yuzu lemon bar for dessert and both were very tasty. Our waiter was very attentive, the food came out hot and fast, and we left completely full. The only complaint I had was that it was quite noisy in there so it was hard to hear each other talk. That being said, it’s a sign of a popular restaurant! Will definitely go again next time we are in Chicago!
Good vibes only at The Girl & The Goat
Of course I was super excited to snag a resy here and enjoy a Chicago night out with my daughter. However, even giving grace for a busy, hectic night I was only mildly impressed. 1. Service was pretty long. Waiter apologized a few times but even just for basic drinks to get started. 2. Meanwhile, the busser was super efficient, often grabbing small plates before we’d determined we were fully done. 3. Zucchini bread served cold, which was surprising. 4. Most food items, despite the length of service, were room temperature and undercooked.
An amazing experience.
Extremely flavorful dishes, friendly staff, beautiful interior. You can't get much better than this.
This place is definitely worth a visit, and I recommend
This place is definitely worth a visit, and I recommend booking a table online in advance. The very modern Asian fusion cuisine here was absolutely amazing! The restaurant as a whole is a very lively place. One of my favorite dishes was the naan with sauces. This is not a regular naan, but more of a pancake. It was topped with different crunchy ingredients for texture, and it was delicious! I also really liked both of the sauces that came with it.
Came here from out of state and for my bday.
This place was amazing and worth every penny. We got the hamachi poke to start off as an appetizer. It was amazing. I loved the sunflower seeds and how well it worked with all the other flavors on the plate, I got the award winning halibut which is inspired by a pb and j sandwich, Also delish. the pork shank falls right off the bone and probably the biggest dish on the menu. Eating it with the melon was probably my favorite But anyway you build your lettuce wrap gives you a different flavor profile with all the options on the plate. They gave a little champagne toast for my birthday and I finished off my meal with the yuzu lemon bar. It was so good! The fresh strawberries with the balsamic and basil. It was magical. Hands down our best and favorite meal in Chicago. Our server was great and even wrote down all the local bars to watch some football walking distance from the restaurant.

I'm a big fan of Stephanie Izard and Top Chef -- have been wanting to try The Girl & The Giat so on a recent visit to Chicago we finally got there and it did not disappoint! The good and the great: the drinks were delicious and complex (and pretty ;)), the menu was fun and varied. Everything was profoundly yummy but the Green Beans were seriously out of this world, sooooo good!! The Goat Empanadas were amazing, tomato salad was my fresh, acidic dream, hamachi was bright and fresh and coolly spiced, the pork belly was light and savory and good. The yuzu lemon was the perfect not too sweet, not too tart ending! The slightly less good: our service was efficient and our server was charming ... my only question is why do the bus people swoop dishes away so quickly (we were an outside almost 8 pm table so I doubt they were turning it over?) ... I feel like they should offer a small but targeted pita/bread course (which we would have happily ordered mid-meal) to mop up all the deliciousness ... the meal is small plate, mezze vibe -- you kind of want to hang on and mix it up. The kinda confusing: we were only visiting Chicago for a few days, I tried to make a reservation several weeks in advance and it was only the 5 pms and the 9 pms ... then the day before suddenly some reasonable times opened up... does the restaurant not release them until the day before? Or is that other diners? We almost didn't go because we couldn't just make a regular dinner reservation time ... So glad we did though ... and look forward to going back on our next visit!!!
One table with 4 chairs were empty, we were the next party
One table with 4 chairs were empty, we were the next party of 3, we were sit down on a tiny table with a chair and a side booth? The next party of 2 got the table with 4 chairs. I wondered the hostesses' knowledge of seating guests. We sat down on an oily booth, I had to wiped it myself. Chickpea Fritters- good taste, great flavor Hamachi poke- good balance of the sauce Wood fire Yucatán pork belly- so salty I only had one bite Confit Goat belly- meat also salty. All the dishes were smaller than my plate. Waiter is very attentive. The seats are so closed to each other, I hated but had to listen to next seats high tone voices and gossip. Another overrated place, sorry
Definitely one of my favorite spots in Chicago.
The restaurant has a dark, moody ambiance and it is decorated beautifully! It is the perfect spot for a date night or a dinner with friends. Reservations can be hard to come by, but it is well worth the effort. We had the chickpea fritters, pork belly, wood fired chicken, green beans, and the matcha tres leches. The chickpea fritters were fantastic and a great way to start off the meal. The pork belly was DELICIOUS, perfectly seasoned and crispy. The wood fired chicken was so flavorful and perfectly cooked, juicy and moist on the inside and perfectly crisped on the outside. The green beans, dare I say, may have stolen the show... these were easily the BEST green beans I've ever had in my life (and I'm not even a big fan of the green beans!) I cannot recommend them enough. The matcha tres leches was HEAVENLY. I adore tres leches cake and am a huge matcha fan, so this dessert was right up my alley. Everything we had was so good. Portions weren't huge, but we felt like we had more than enough to eat with what we ordered. The service was also great - our server was really attentive and we didn't have to ask for water refills once. The cocktails are incredible - I am planning to come back on a weekend night just to sit and have a drink in the lively atmosphere. This place feels hip and buzzy without being overwhelmingly loud or obnoxious. The Sun Kid and Bring the Beet Back were 10/10 cocktails. Overall, I had a lovely experience here and will definitely be returning soon to try more of the dishes. Highly recommend!
Celiac : separate gf menu, very knowledgeable staff.
Food was DELICIOUS and no reaction. Recommend the corn and halibut. Non gf friends really loved the zucchini bread. Great service. Good drinks. Will come back again.

I didn't believe my best friend when she said she had a dream about the green beans from Girl & the Goat.... BUT WOW. They were absolutely phenomenal. I love when a restaurant can make simple veggies taste soooo good. They really were one of my favorite items at dinner. The hamachi was so fresh and light, and the grilled chicken was cooked to perfection- crispy skin and a juicy inside. The food overall was delicious. Vibes inside was very moody and dim light which set a good tone for the place!
First time visiting and I loved it.
Been following Stephanie Izard since she won Top Chef back in the day, and I must say that YES, she knows how to make delicious food. The roasted halibut was so flavorful. This dish is a must. Loved the vibe the restaurant had. It was between intimate and low key chill. Well if you're in Chicago, this a restaurant you need to try.
Great American taste with a twist
Great option to try something different with a touch of American classic Good ambiance and attention of all the staff. Always attentive. The menu is reduced in options but have very tasty features to try. Like the chicken skewers and the corn. Nice neighborhood also.
Noisy but very good food.
Very, very busy place but our seating and service was punctual. A couple of misses prevented a five star rating. Be prepared for a very noisy experience, not completely untenable, but certainly not pleasant. We ordered their Cuisine green beans as a side, but the mains were delivered first and we cancelled the beans. Small but very intense portions of chicken skewers and flank steak. Drink prices very high, pours very small. Complimentary water was not cold. Desert was well done. Server did a very good job. Would have rated lower, but the good we had was really very good.
DELISH!!
Absolutely everything we ate was delicious! We had more than half the menu and my kids gorged themselves on each dish, eating more than their share of the shared plates. It was a little noisy, but you barely notice because the food is so good.
Small Plates of Great Food
Had a great meal and enjoyed our time. The meals all come as small plates, which can add up as you move through a meal, but it was a great place to eat and we are glad we did. We ended up outside on a beautiful night, which is good because we thought the indoor seating was crazy loud. Service was awesome.
Cool breakfast spot!
Stopped here for Sunday brunch before leaving Chicago! They held our suitcases with no questions! We ordered the cinnabiscuit, and unfortunately it was a bit dry however the pork belly okonomiyaki pancake was delicious and full of flavour! And the kohlrabi salad surprisingly a great breakfast salad! The restaurant has a funky, modern yet retro look with a laid back vibe. Staff were great and quick to clear tables. Would like to try their dinner! Next time!
Great Dining Experience
I was excited to dine here at this highly rated restaurant and it didn’t let me down. Beautiful space and nice atmosphere. I had the roasted asparagus and soft shell crab which were both delicious.
Amazing food and atmosphere. Bar staff are top notch.
I have eaten in some top class restaurants many of which are Michelin and this is one of the best places I’ve ever eaten at. The food is so tasty, the texture is brilliant. I also have to call out the bar staff they are friendly and knowledgeable, especially Josh. He knows everything about everything And can make any kind of cocktail you can imagine and knows what you want. His demeanour when he’s talking to you is brilliant and he makes you feel comfortable. Absolutely brilliant night, one of the best I’ve had in years.
Was overwhelmed by the menu- so unique and unfamiliar.
Absolutely the highlight of my weekend birthday trip to the city with my husband. He enjoyed it so much that he suggested we order dessert! Nothing disappointed. Worth the wait for a reservation!
This was my second time at Girl and the Goat, I previously
This was my second time at Girl and the Goat, I previously dined there in 2016 on my last visit to Chicago. The food here is spectacular. When you look at the menu, nothing really "jumps out" at you. There are no en vogue culinary buzz words describing the food. But then you order your items and each one is better than the last. Last night I had the Brioche - came with pimento cheese and a relish both incredible accoutrements. The pimento cheese was extremely buttery in the best way possible. Roasted Corn - had a coconut milk caramel drizzled on that was only subtly sweet but enough to give you the caramel corn vibes you're looking for. Halibut - just perfect. My favorite dish of the night. The Vietnamese fish sauce and scallion/cilantro/chile garnish was morish and refreshing. Crispy Short Rib - incredibly tender braised beef that got flash fried for an awesome texture, not too much crust. Must have. Grilled Chicken Skewers - really flavorful cashew butter and tiny mushrooms to go with the skewers. Beef empanadas - the red pepper salsa underneath was a great compliment to the empanadas. Flourless chocolate cake - came with some kind of shortbread crumble that was the best part. This chocolate cake was decadently dense and the basil gelato and lemon cream helped cut through the richness. Hazelnut ice cream/blondie - the first bite was puzzling but only because I wasn't expecting the sourness of the orange peel. Once I got on the wavelength of the dish I loved it! All of the elements were great, must have if you like hazelnuts, there were tons! Service was great and my Goat Old Fashioned was nicely balanced too. I could have eaten seconds of everything. Can't wait for my next visit to Chicago so I can return!
Got a gift card to come to this restaurant for our birthday.
Decided to use it for early dinner. Make sure you make reservation. The food menu isn't that big but gave you a good selections. We order the chickpeas and asparagus for appetizer. For our entree we order a crispy short ribs and the wood fired whole branzino. The food comes out quick and we were full didn't eat dessert. The portion is just right. Great to come with your family or couple friend to share the dishes. Street parking however they have valet.

Super tasty & solo-friendly spot! I was in Chicago for a work trip and wanted to try this place because I heard good things from others and they were right. My server was friendly and attentive and shared that the portions for some dishes are modified for solo diners. I got a half order of chickpea fritters and half green bean since I wanted to try both and the fritters were very yummy. They tasted like fried tofu. I ordered the halibut for my main and it was pretty good - though the (miso butter?) sauce was a little unusual for me. For dessert, I ordered the ginger chocolate bar which was rich but not too sweet. It was the perfect way to end the lovely meal. The portion sizes were very reasonable and I was so surprised that I finished everything. The restaurant is very spacious and was bustling on a weeknight. Would def come back again for a treat yourself kinda meal.
For starters, this is a good restaurant.
Nearly every dish is different, pretty inventive, and notable. However, they do something that more and more restaurants do: smaller, lower calorie portions with a "shareable" tag, and that means you have to order more, spend more to be full. In the end, adding drinks, dessert, etc. you get a bill that is, frankly, a whopper. For $400 and 4 people, I KNOW we can do better in Chicago. So, unless you can get your firm / boss to foot the bill, there are many, MANY better options, in the same neighborhood. I honestly felt underwhelmed for what I paid, and it felt like the prices were over the top. read the reviews carefully. They all touch on this in multiple ways. BTW, the elote (corn) is really good, and should cost very little to make. It's also slippery, and it must be eaten with the hands. One member of our partly tried to shave the kernels, only to have the cob slip from the plate onto the floor. That alone is ok. It's an accident. What you don't want is to go to a restaurant and feel like you just lost a chunk of money because that happened. Here's a hint to the girl and the goat: please consider some cheap bamboo skewers so people can hold it and eat it.
Tried the halibut, goat belly, short rib and the dessert
Tried the halibut, goat belly, short rib and the dessert with chocolate bar and lemon cake. Food is delicious and service was good
Noisy
The place was packed, and the acoustics were terrible. We ended up at a communal table, and the couple at the other end were extremely loud. Sadly, the food failed to save the evening--the goat yogurt was goat yogurt, while the halibut got lost in the stuff they put on it.
One of my favorite places in the city.
Each dish is unique and very well plated. The room is a little bit too dark if you don't have a table seat... so unless you make a reservation it might not be worth it to hang around for a whole dinner. Service is okay, a little unpredictable and not always professional - if you are a lady in a group of men you can expect to be ignored at times..
So good in so many ways.
While the service experience we had was below average everything else was top notch. Everything we ordered was excellently prepared and had layers of both flavor and textures that really elevate a dish from being good to being exceptional. Would definitely return and would obviously recommend. Overall environment and vibe was great. Great spot.
Really unique always great expect to wait if you do not
Really unique always great expect to wait if you do not plan ahead. Staffed by professionals who know the menu inside and out.
The food was amazing.
The highlight was the goat empanadas. Everything was flavorful and delicious.
Party on My Palate!
The staff were friendly and helpful. Our server was so knowledgeable of the food and the way it was prepared and served. And the food - it was a party on my palate! We had the halibut (top chef award winning dish), the roasted pig face (don't let the name scare you), the pork shank and the goat empanadas. If you want to have an intimate conversation, best to sit outside. It can be really loud during a busy shift. Great experience!
Worth all the hype.
The food is as good as the hype. All dishes have unique flavor profiles. Each dish is enough to split between two people. We split 5 dishes between two of us. Service was exemplary.
Atmosphere was not good
I found the food at this restaurant to be inventive and mostly delicious, but the atmosphere definitely knocks this down a peg. For a fine dining establishment where myself and husband paid $300+ for a meal, it was disappointing to have to shout because the music was so incredibly loud. They were playing very trendy music which I found to be a bit jarring. We had a reservation at 9:15 on a weeknight and we waited over 30 minutes for our table. The hostesses were pretty rude and short with us. However, our waiter was very nice. I would rate this experience 3.5/5 and would recommend going to other fine dining establishments in Chicago for dinner.
Don’t over order
We almost ordered one of everything on the menu. Yes, one of each. It’s a lot of food for five people. Of the 14 dishes we ordered, we should note that every dish was excellent with the chickpea fritters, the branzino, salmon, and short ribs being the standouts. For drinks, the bring the beet back and the green street manhattan both get top marks. Excellent service with proper spacing allowed the meal to proceed smoothly over the course of an hour and a half. Enjoy.
Award winning Chef doesn't disappoint
Made reservations for myself and a colleague for a Monday evening at 7pm about a month in advance of our trip and was excited as I was an avid fan of Top Chef and Chef Stephanie Izard. We arrived about 15 minutes early and were directed to the bar. The ambiance is quite nice - a bit dim, however the sounds of the kitchen, plates, drinks and fellow diners chatter fill the air. We were seated within 10 minutes. The waiter was excellent explaining the style (tapa-esque shared plates) the portion sizes, the drink menu and the most popular items to us after we indicated it was our first time at the joint. He mentioned 3-5 plates would likely satisfy two people alongside drinks. My colleague had a few different local beers and I had a virgin the 'spicy boy' (tarragon . pomegranate . jalapeño . ginger . lime) which was excellent. We selected four dishes - the Pig face, green beans, goat empanadas and the salmon poke. 3 out of 4 dishes were excellent and I'd recommend each of them as one were bad. The only disappointing bite was the goat empanadas came with some plantain thing that was not great and had an odd texture - if the plantain thing was tastier then the goat empanada would be overall excellent. We each got a dessert to enjoy on our own. I got the strawberry shortcake dish and my colleague got the ice cream sundae. Both desserts had very sophisticated flavor profiles and uniquely blended savory and sweet quite remarkably. I'd certainly recommend this place to anyone headed or in Chicago. The bill came to around $210 with tip.
Indulge in unforgettable flavors, create cherished memories
Our Mother's Day brunch at Girl and the Goat in Chicago was an absolute delight! Sharing this experience with my mom on her first trip to Chicago made it even more special. Our server, Kona, was not only personable but also a true foodie who enhanced our dining experience with her enthusiasm and recommendations. The prix fixe meal was a culinary journey, each dish a masterpiece of flavor and presentation. From the refreshing yogurt & granola to the indulgent crabby French toast, every bite was a taste sensation. Special thanks to the talented chefs and the attentive staff at Girl and the Goat for making our Mother's Day celebration truly memorable! 🍽️✨
Great flavors
We shared a number of plates and everything was good. The flavor combos were nice, and our favorites were the chick peas and beets.
Spectacular Meal: Perfect from Start to Finish!
This was a perfect meal for the last night of a trip to Chicago! I booked a table to celebrate a family member’s birthday. They gave us a table that looked directly into the kitchen (kind of like a chef’s table). Chris, our server, was exceptional and made such amazing recommendations (we had wonderful cocktails, the shrimp salad, goat empenadas, green beans, pig face). Lastly, we had passion fruit sorbet and the praline sundae. Also, we had the pleasure of meeting Tito, a kind and personable chef who—along with the other kitchen staff—worked to make our meal amazing. A perfect meal!! Highly recommend!!!
Probably my favorite restaurant in the whole city.
No matter what you get, you can't go wrong since everything is delicious. Great staff as well!
The naan and dips were excellent.
Goat empanadas were great and fresh. The dessert was amazing. Only complaint is your basically putting your butt on someone's table trying to get into their seating and the service was just meehhhh. He definitely tried to over sell and tell us we NEEDED 6 entrees between the two of us and had to constantly turn him down.
Love the ambiance of this place, very lively.
I do think the food is amazing but I did not like their menu last time I went.
Amazing service and some cheese worth going for!!!!!!!!
Amazing service and some cheese worth going for!!!!!!!! They do all their work in house

I was in Chicago for work and Stephanie is one of my favorite Top Chef contestants so obviously I'm going to stop at her restaurant. I started with the cocktail made with beet juice. It was perfectly balanced and delicious. Then, I had the chickpea fritters. This dish was surprising in a good way. Everything served a purpose and worked in perfect harmony. I had a glass of cab franc with the goat dish. I hardly ever see that varietal on the menu, so I was excited! I tried the goat liver mouse and that was the only miss for me. I don't really enjoy liver but wanted to give it a try based on the server suggestion. I'm sure it's delicious, I just couldn't get over the flavor and saltiness. Not my jam, but everything that came with it was perfect! It's such a beautiful space, the service was spectacular and overall a perfect night. I would just order differently next time. No fault of the restaurant.

Being from out of town, we were looking for something that would make our Chicago trip memorable. We certainly found it at girl and the goat. Joshua was our server and talked us through the menu. In fact, everyone who serves your plate will describe the flavors and process of what is being presented. There were so many unique options but our favorites were the pork belly and salmon. Something important to note is that portions are smaller, so we actually chose a few plates and shared them amongst the table. This was the perfect place for a girls night, date night, or to experience an intimate meal. Loved it
Wow and just wow! I can see why this place was completely
Wow and just wow! I can see why this place was completely full on a Wednesday night! This was a spectacular meal. The restaurant is very modern and seating is tight but comfortable. The waitress was super friendly and answered any questions we had. Very informative and helpful. The drinks were very well balanced. And agh the food was just so good. Such a great combination of flavors. I highly recommend the pork shank. It's large and worth it. The best thing we ordered hands down. Also the minute it landed at our table, everyone around us was wishing they had ordered it themselves. Lol! So my tip is to please order this, you won't regret it! Dessert was equally amazing. I can't recommend this place enough! Thank you for making my birthday special .
Good food , good service , fair pricing .
What more can you ask for right ? Recommended .
GO HERE! That's it.
That's the post. Seriously. Do yourself this favor. AMAZING! since I have to write more to post, I'll say this; staff, impeccable. Food, some of the best I have ever had. Cocktails, maybe better than the food; but probably a tie. GO HERE! I wish I captured pics of everything.
Really good food.
Could be a better value. The pork shank and green beans are really good. This place is really good but a little over hyped. Good service. Atmosphere was over hyped.
