We've dined here a number of times over the last three
We've dined here a number of times over the last three years; our last being Valentine's Day. The food was amazing as usual - compliments to chef Katy. The downside to dining here now is her husband (?) Ksandek. What a pretentious arrogant man. He talked down to us and over us. No warmth or courtesy whatsoever. this last experience- We arrived about 5 min early to our reservation. Ours was the first at opening. Another couple arrived as well for their reservation. The doors were locked and ksandek and crew were just inside. he saw us, but did nothing. opening time came and went and he still let us stand outside in the rain and wind for another 10 min. He eventually sauntered over and let us all in (other diners showed up as well by this time, all of us huddling to keep out of the elements) with no welcome or apologies for keeping us out in the rain. His attitude never improved. We don't drink wine so didn't have need for his sommelier skills and he then had no interest in us. What a negative for this restaurant. chef Katy's skill is the reason to dine here. Really not sure why he's there. Now all I see since then is new branding in emails and website with his name front and center in front of hers. Really?!! Why? my enthusiasm for this restaurant has waned at the prospect of having to deal with that guy again. My husband agrees wholeheartedly. We can spend our money elsewhere.
Not what it used to be.
Coquine used to be great restaurant with a relaxing neighborhood vibe. After two visits in the last year, we noticed it has become a snooty restaurant, with greedy prices and portions. The last time we went with family from out of town and they couldn't believe how ridiculous the wine portions were - they barely served us 4 ounces and charged $20 per glass. The food is still great, but it would help to lose the attitude and the greediness.
The service was absolutely amazing.
They waiters and waitresses were kind and explained the menu very well. They even helped pick out some nice wine to pair with the dinner. I'm not a wine person, but the rose they recommended was really good. We did the 5 coarse meal, so it took about 2 hours. The ambiance was very cozy and rustic. My most favorite dish would be the ravioli stuffed with ricotta ; it had fava beans and other nuts that paired so well with the pasta. The ice cream had a burst on flavor in every bite. I was a bit skeptical with the plate of just cheese, but when I took a bite into it, the cheese and cherry just felt so refreshing. The caviar was very buttery and rich.

I've been meaning to review this restaurant and just couldn't get around to it! I dined here with a friend, we had a few cocktails and their 7 course dining experience! Food was fabulous! Delicate and presentation did not disappoint! Our salad was made with miners lettuce and so many unique ingredients! Truly an elite dining experience in Portland. Highly recommend this restaurant! Oh and I forgot! At the end of our meal we got a box of cookies to take home! Yum!!
Hidden 20% gratuity added to bill
Overall wonderful experience with regard to the food and service. Three stars only because a 20% gratuity was added to my bill without telling me. I tend not to look over the receipt in detail and came very close to missing this. I almost added 20% to the $200 bill (that already included a 20% gratuity). This felt very dishonest to me. I expect more from a restaurant like Coquine.

What a great experience.
This is a cozy restaurant and the staff were friendly and attentive. We chose to do the chefs tasting menu so we could taste a little of many things. It was wonderful to not have to make any decisions and just let them bring out small delicious dishes. Everything was amazing and I highly suggest this place.

Exquisite chef's choice menu, with a few extra mini courses thrown in. Marvelous cheese course, perfect lamb chops. All in all well done.
Amazing food
Amazing food, quaint and inviting location, and overall one of our best dinners while traveling ever! We had the special Valentine's Day menu and it did not disappoint!
Everything from the food to the service needs an upgrade.
How they became so popular, I'll never know.
We spent the evening at Coquine.
It was my birthday and it was special. First off the staff is knowledgeable, warm and efficient. Things moved along smoothly. We had ordered a special salad, Crispy Mushroom rice, so tasty. Then because the first salad was so impeccably flavored we ordered another kind and that was superb as well. Then came the roasted half chicken. We ended with 2 desserts that were equally perfect. I can't even describe all the seasonal flavors used. The setting is lit with candles; small and intimate. Will definitely return to this sweet spot.

Atmosphere, check! Knowledgeable and friendly staff, check! Local and quality ingredients, check! Taste, check! Presentation, check! This restaurant was the perfect place to spend my first Valentine's Day as a married couple with my husband. The food was decadent yet light enough for me (a grazer, not a big meal person) to eat every bite. Pricey but for good reason. If you can afford the splurge, it's a great place for special occasions, even if that special occasion is treating yourself to an experience that makes you feel like royalty. I have now realized that I *DO* like gnocchi and I'm going to work on my sauce game in my kitchen because I've clearly not been doing it well enough. That tetsukabuto squash and especially the sauce will last in my memory forever.

Four of us ate there last weekend and had an extraordinary experience! The service from start to finish was wonderful. There when you needed, not when you didn't want it. We all had the tasting menu and were served superb dish after dish with interesting taste combinations and great presentation. Our server was very knowledgeable and helped with two bottles of wine which complemented the dishes. Both were wines we had never tried before. It's a very small restaurant. The ambiance was home -- but not too homey. Yes, it was expensive but I felt it was a value given the overall experience. Less than half what The French Laundry costs and very close to the dining experience!
The two stars are for the cookies.
It's hit or miss whether I can get bread as I've only been able to get the focaccia once and baguettes twice. What really irks me though is how surly, morose and downright rude the staff are. Never a smile, or a welcome, or a greeting. I'm an efficient orderer and always friendly. Today, my have a happy New Year was met by a blank stare. This review is solely for the market. FWIW- I work in the service industry too.
Wish I could rate lower.
I was trying to send a gift card for my daughter and her husband to have dinner. She was excited to try it. Problem ordering online and while speaking with someone at the restaurant (he tried walking me through it on the phone) I told him I was looking to buy over the phone and if he couldn't do that I would have to go somewhere else. Instead of saying no we don't do that he......HUNG UP ON ME! Wow great customer service
If you've read my review about Kann, this is a similar
If you've read my review about Kann, this is a similar experience except on a much smaller but mind blowing coffee and pastry scale Located in a quiet neighborhood near Mt Tabor, Coquine feels like a small nook of Europe. As you walk in, you'll see a small selection of veggies, wines, hard to find chocolates to the left and an incredible selection of freshly made pastries (chocolate bread situation, cardamom monkey bread, I may have blacked out on all other options) and coffee to the right. They have thought through everything here, from quality coffee and snacks, to beautiful ceramics the coffee is served in. Two things I'll call out is I really wanted to try one of their sandwiches but they only had ham, no vegetarian options. And the other thing with all its amazingness this place is amazingly expensive. Totally worth it of course.
Great staff and great food! We asked for some wine
Great staff and great food! We asked for some wine recommendations and were very pleased with our options. Loved the cookies to go option- and wasn't forgotten! Deidre was delightful as a waitress. Thoughtfully prepared but felt like a home cooked meal. Seasonal menu options too!
This review is solely based on Coquine Market Café.
It was a Friday morning, I entered the café with the barista staring at me and did not say a word. I walked towards the ordering counter and looked at the display case of pastries. I did notice quite an amount of fruit flies flying around in the case. Before placing my order, I wasn't greeted or acknowledged at all. Instead the three workers were talking among themselves. I purchased three of the Coquine famous cookies and a Morning Bun. The cookies and the morning bun was phenomenal. Incredibly delicious and would definitely recommend it. They should find a method to abate the fruit flies. Customer service on the other hand was subpar. There was definitely a lack of attentiveness and friendliness. There is a small parking lot next to the restaurant and street parking.
Market review: I love walking up to tabor for this market.
I just want to leave a note for the owner/staff. The pastry case has fruit flies all over pastries. At home I use a bowl of vinegar/honey/water/soap and was able to control them. I don't want to buy pastries teeming with flies.
My new favorite restaurant.
Wow! What an absolute gem. This restaurant is a total winner. The food is delicious, the service superb, the ambience perfect. Everything you would need for a wonderful meal out.
Coffee with a Scowl
I thought it was a Good morning , until my Daughter snd I got the Evil eye and Coffee with a Scowl. Yikes. How about a smile from the Coffee server .
