Amazing Tapas
We had an exceptional meal here on our last night in Barcelona. My husband loved the seasonal tomato salad with tuna and anchovies. My favorite was the whole monkfish which was a special and the Canete style shrimp in garlic. We also enjoyed the oxtails with mashed potatoes and the veal meatballs. All were delicious but left no room for dessert. Our only complaint. I would highly recommend, but you will need to make reservations well in advance.
Our favorite restaurant in Barcelona
We love it so much we would take the 2.5 hour return train from Madrid just to eat here for lunch. There is nothing we have ordered over the years that disappointed us. Our staples are the boquerones al vinagre, squid sandwich, cochinillo, steak with foie gras and torrijas for dessert. They also have daily specials which provide some new options for regulars. In addition to the food, which are classic tapas, the atmosphere is bustling and fun. Normally, we avoid the bar area in restaurants since we are not drinkers but we make an exception here. This is where the action is and the servers are really friendly and funny and have been in the restaurant for many years. The prices are above average and since it is tapas style, the portions can only be shared with 2 people at most. Also, because the food is so good, we tend to order a lot so the bill does add up. Despite that, we feel we get more than we pay for because of the quality of the food and service which has remained consistently solid over the years. You need a reservation or you will need to wait during peak times.
Overpriced, bad food
We came to Cañete with high expectations after seeing the good reviews online. Unfortunately the food was very expensive for the poor quality of food that we were served. We ordered a dish of prawns that did not taste fresh, and the rest of the food just did not taste good. I won’t be recommending this to friends.
Great meal! Make a reservation
This place fills up fast. Call or use their website to make a reservation ahead of time. Worth going to again! Best dishes were: veal meatball (comes with fries), steak, tomato bread, burrata. Shrimp in garlic could have used a little more salt/seasoning. Great service
A must in Barcelona
Everything was amazing. Perfect solo but probably even better with lots of people so you can try every dish. Great food and a great vibe.
Great food and wine with a lively atmosphere
Great place to eat and it is very lively as it gets so busy. We were served by Emilio who's mum is English. He's a Gooner and I'm a Blade so he reminded me that Arsenal had beaten us 6-0 a couple of weeks previously. He's a good lad and does his job extremely well. Of course it's his job to gently persuade us to spend a little bit more but he does it so well. He does take no for an answer, eventually :) He's is really good at helping you choose which plate to have and his knowledge of which wine to go with the food you choose is excellent. I highly recommend Bar Canete - give it a try.
EVERYTHING PERFECT
The place is amazing and the food delicious. The waiters are really friendly and caring. We really enjoyed our time there, explecially with Emilio. We love you. Giulia, Giulia and Chiara 🏻

You must reserve. The service is the restaurant show! But the food is outstanding. You can see the chef working from your table. Order cañita to start. Then, choose a bottle of a good Tempranillo. Don’t be afraid and order to share. The prices are very razonable. You have only 2 hours for this experience, so don’t waste time!

Absolutely fantastic!!! I’ve had a lot of difficulties in booking but definitely it worth it. The service is great, Emilio was a great host. The food is very good and with a lot of variety Mainly tapas

Get your reservation early. It is worth every bite!
This is one of the best meals I had in all of Spain. There are a limited number of tables - maybe 10-15 so the waiting list for a table is long. We booked 2.5 months in advance for a table. Our waiter even knew where we were from ( They take pride in knowing their customers). The staff was friendly and family oriented. We were treated well and each tapas was better than the next. The chocolate desert was heavenly and we should have ordered two more but we were stuffed. The ambiance is friendly and appealing. I highly recommend this restaurant/bar. If you do not have a reservation, don't fret, you can sit at the bar however the wait might be 2-3 hours ( this is what I overheard others sharing). The reservations are so coveted there were people that flew in from Japan with their luggage and went straight to the restaurant- that's how highly coveted this place is. Apparently they were not the only ones because they had about 10 suitcases stacked up for patrons. I would strongly encourage you to try and get a reservation and go. This is a phenomenal restaurant and so much better than the Micheline restaurant we went to the night before.
Absolutely perfect!
No surprise I would suppose but our visit couldn't have been better. We were sat dead center at the counter and got the opportunity to watch the team work their magic all evening while enjoying dish after dish of simply remarkably great food. The tuna tartare is beyond fantastic, and the octopus was the best I've ever eaten. Great bottle of wine to top everything off. The waiters were so entertaining and real pros, combining top notch service with an entertaining, super friendly vibe. We'd never go back to Barcelona without making Bar Canete a must-do.
Fantastic
Visited here during ISE in 2023, such a great restaurant with a varied menu. Friendly and attentive staff, will definitely be going back during my next visit to Barcelona.
Delicious tapas
My husband and I went with nine 20-21 year olds for dinner and it was great! The restaurant was very accommodating to our large party. The squid sandwich was a favorite as were the tuna tartar and lobster croquettes. I would highly recommend for tapas and a very cool vibe.

A great treat. The food is worth the price. I got my wine by the glass because the bottles were more money. Worth the visit.
Great Barcelona Tapas
This is a terrific Tapas restaurant. The selections were all wonderful (and some of the best french fries I've ever had) if a bit pricey. It can be a bit hectic and reservations are essential. The staff are friendly and accommodating. Thee is a good wine list with many good wines at reasonable prices. It can be noisy, but that's part of the attraction. If you want Tapas in Barcelona, this is a place you should consider.
Excellence on a plate.
Superb food served in an amazing atmosphere by terrific staff. Excellence achieved. Not somewhere you’d choose by walking past on the street but once through the door, wow!
Faultless experience
So good we went twice.... Excellent tapas, well worth venturing off la ramblas for an experience sat amongst tourists and local friends of the bar. The service is excellent, fun, accommodating and the atmosphere has a real buss as you sit on the counter and watch the chefs work their magic. All the dishes were faultless, the special mille feuille was excellent. All the fish dishes fresh, tuna and steak artar were excellent - i wish we would have had room to eat more. It is well worth trying to get a reservation but if not you can sit and enjoy a drink while you watch the madness unfold!! Well worth the hype and a visit.
Brilliant experience
A reservation is strongly recommended if this very busy gem of a restaurant. We sat at the bar and the pace of service was relentless and the banter with the waiter non-stop. Our food was fantastic - ham and lobster croquettes, fresh cut iberico ham, tomato bread, garlic shrimp and millet fleur to finish. Together with three glasses of wine, the bill was a very acceptable 81 euros. Great fun!

Amazing, memorable and delicious!
I’ll keep it short - book ahead as mega busy. Service was impeccable and the setting is everything you’d want in an authentic tapas bar. The food is the main event and everything was delicious, highlights the prawn and sweetbread dish, fried artichoke, oxtail and mash and the tortillitas de camarones. I went with kids and they loved it too. Not the cheapest but worth every euro.

Step-by-Step Process
1.) Setting a Reward (Bid)
* AppointmentTrader uses historical data to recommend a reasonable reward amount for securing a reservation - let's say $100.
* Peter really wants to go, so he increases the bid (or reward) to $200.
* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.
2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* PerceptiveWash44, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's bid.
* PerceptiveWash44 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to PerceptiveWash44 for any questions Peter may have as PerceptiveWash44 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* PerceptiveWash44 now uses their connections at Cañete Barcelona to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If PerceptiveWash44 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, PerceptiveWash44 receives the $200 reward which is credited to PerceptiveWash44's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at Cañete Barcelona!
* As with all transactions on AT, disputes and no-show fees are handled through the platform's community-driven resolution system. Users with a strong track record are incentivized to fulfill bids successfully, and community members can report issues to maintain trust in the marketplace.
