Ad Hoc Yountville Reviews
This was a top notch foodie experience! They have a set
This was a top notch foodie experience! They have a set menu each day from salad to dessert & you can include (for an extra charge) supplemental food items, but not necessary. Everything tasted terrific. Hostess & server were both friendly. There were 2 very loud parties in the restaurant that made it quite loud & hard to talk, but nothing you can do about that. For a Napa dining experience in. Thomas Keller restaurant -I definitely recommend it!
We absolutely have loved dinning here over the last few
We absolutely have loved dinning here over the last few years. Every time my wife and I are in Napa for a week we make 3-4 reservations here. The food is absolutely outstanding but you better come hungry. Tons of really good that all comes out on time. Love the people who work and they have great cocktails! 10/10 best place in yountville!
Good stuff, you never know what your going to get.
The menu changes every day. You don't have an choice of the main items, but they do have some additional items to order if you want to add to the prefix menu. The food was really good, not sure if telling you will help because it change every day... But I'll mention in case they repeat things. We were lucky they put the Fried Chicken (5 Stars) on the menu, it was awesome, rosemary infused buttermilk marinated, then battered and fried to perfection. Some of the rosemary gets caught up in the batter and fried, those pieces were extra good. The chips and dip (4 stars) were awesome too, fresh made onion dip with fresh made potatoes chips, like Lay's potatoes chips, probably more like how the person who invented the potatoes chip tasted. Super thin and crispy, but still able to get the dip. The Pork Chop (4 Stars) was perfectly cooked (very light pink in the middle) and seasoned well. It was juicy and tender, love it! Until next time..
Ad Hoc is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in all
Ad Hoc is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in all of Napa Valley. Every time I dine here, the food is incredible -- thoughtful, perfectly executed, and so full of flavor. The service is warm, professional, and always makes you feel at home. The ever-changing menu keeps each visit exciting, but the quality is consistently amazing. You can truly taste the care and creativity behind every dish. Thomas Keller is the best -- his vision and attention to detail shine through in every aspect of the dining experience. If you're in Napa Valley, Ad Hoc is a must!
Ad Hoc for lunch did not disappoint.
Yes, it's cliché, but their fried chicken truly is to die for. Every course was outstanding--an elevated dining experience served in a relaxed, casual setting. It's not the place for a quiet, intimate escape, but with food this good, it's no wonder it's a high energy environment.
My wife and I went there for our anniversary.
Very nice place. The food was very good and the portions sizes were as well. We could not even finish our dessert. Very nice ambience and very knowledgeable yet unpretentious servers. We will be back!

We had a reservation for 5 at 11:15pm on a Saturday, and were seated immediately without an issue despite arriving a few minutes late. We opted to add on the fried chicken to the set menu for an additional charge, and our total ended up being about $80 per person. While everything was delicious and the service was excellent, I'm not sure any of the food was super standout or memorable. The salad was surprisingly enjoyable and fresh, but the veggies that came with the pork were a little too salty, and the pasta was pretty generic. While the soft serve with different sauces was fun, overall I'm not sure I'd come again for a sitdown meal. I would definitely return to takeout some of the chicken! Despite this, its nice and bright and warm inside, and we had a good time. Definitely a great spot for a group looking to celebrate a special occasion while still keeping it casual.
High end service.
Great fresh food. Limited menu. Def worth trying to catch of glimpse of Thomas Keller cooking.
OMG this is the BEST Fried Chicken and Fried Chicken
OMG this is the BEST Fried Chicken and Fried Chicken Sandwich EVER. That is all. We got there at 11:15 am on a Saturday and were maybe 4th in line out back. Placed our order, found a table, waited maybe 15 minutes and chowed down! Soooo good! We got a bucket of chicken to take home to the kids and it's even good cold, the next day.
The servers here are just order takers who happen to know
The servers here are just order takers who happen to know there is a fish or vegetable option each night. They know you're locked in because you googled Thomas Keller restaurants and have no other option, and all they have to do it point at the one menu option and say "this is what we have tonight". And if you don't shell out a 22% tip for this phenomenal experience, you are a POS.
OUTSTANDING DINNER and SERVICE!
We absolutely love this place! The service is always professional and so friendly Chad and Iban were attentifs to details and make sure everything was perfect. The food is gorgeous here always fresh and tasty. The salad with beets, green beans and figs was so delicious! The pork for the main course was so tender and the peppercorn sauce was divine. The must was the vegetables from the garden of French laundry, the eggplants and the squash were perfectly roasted with olive oil and remember my grand mother cooking in the south of France. The soft ice cream was perfect to finish this gorgeous meal. We can’t wait to return .. A dinner to remember 🙏❤️
Really Enjoyable Lunch!
We had always heard great things about Thomas Keller’s fried chicken, made famous at Ad Hoc and then at their pick-up window, Addendum. Although we had visited Yountville a few times, we had never made plans to visit Ad Hoc until this most recent trip. We went during lunch and, surprisingly, it wasn’t overly busy despite the beautiful day with many people sitting outside. Our servers were fantastic, readily answering questions, and doing an excellent job explaining the menu and each item that came out. On the day we visited, they had a pork porterhouse cut on the menu, which alone would have been incredible and plenty to eat, but we opted for the fried chicken add-on, and it was well worth the extra money! Each course was phenomenal. I usually don’t enjoy goat cheese as it’s too gamey for me, but the way the chef prepared it here was incredible. It mixed perfectly with the balsamic at the bottom of the salad dish. The greens were incredibly fresh, and the combination of that cheese, the balsamic, cherries, and pickled onions was truly special. We wanted to keep digging into the salad but had to stop as we knew there was more food coming. The grilled pork porterhouse came out next, along with a side of charred broccolini. The pork was perfectly cooked to temp, yet nice and juicy inside. The chimichurri was a great addition, and the broccolini was excellent with a perfect char flavor. The fried chicken course followed almost immediately after the pork and was incredible—truly some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had! I later learned from our server about the multi-step, multi-day brining process, which was evident from the flavor and incredible tenderness of every piece. The batter was heavenly—so thick and crispy! Make sure to save room for dessert—it was yet another excellent course! The rhubarb crumble was fresh and very tasty, especially the crumble. We’d definitely return, as this was easily one of our top lunches on this trip!
Amazing food and Excellent service!
Charming location! We enjoyed so much the table outside. The service here is excellent with a very professional and super friendly Team. Especially Alexis! The menu was extraordinary with fresh and super tasty products. We appreciated and enjoyed the salad with green beans perfectly cooked and the seasoning so elegant. The roasted pork so tender and the grilled octopus too. For the dessert the cake with the cream pistachio was so yummy and so moist! A dinner to remember .. Donot hesitate to book here .. A GEM🙏❤️
Excellent 3 Course Lunch
Read other 5 star reviews so we don’t repeat the same superlatives. Look at website before you go or make a reservation as the menu is different for each meal. Our day, it was pork shoulder at lunch. No knife needed. If you don’t eat pork, they substituted an excellent salmon or you could have a veggie entree. Salad and dessert were unique and exceptional. Hopefully, duplicatable at home. Service staff knowledgeable and thoughtful. Fried chicken was offered as an extra. Cost expensive but good value.
Solid Set Menu
A bit pricy, but a high quality and a excellent chef tasting experience. Regardless of when you arrive at Ad Hoc, you'll be greeted with a set 3-course menu. There are a few buy-up opportunities as well as drink pairings. The menu is based on what is fresh, seasonal, and what they chef feels like preparing. I loved the fried chicken and waffles. Their bloody mary was a bit basic, but I enjoyed it as well. Service is somewhat hands off, however, you'll move through your family style courses at an appropriate pace. They do have on-site parking, however, it is a very small lot so be prepared to park on the street. Enjoy!
Tip: Go for lunch on a weekday!
We went for lunch during restaurant week and received a small complementary side of fried chicken along with our fixed price lunch. Been wanting to try Ad Hoc fried chicken for the longest time and it did not disappoint! There was more than enough food and everything was delicious. Chicken was moist, well seasoned and perfectly crunchy. We also had a delicious salad, pork shank with polenta, broccolini and an apple crisp for dessert. Service was great and very efficient. Would definitely return, preferably on a weekday since weekends are crazy in Napa Valley.
Outstanding Meal
We dined here while visiting Napa. Great menu and drinks. Prix fix as usual. Good service. Great ambience. Steak was cooked perfectly. Highly recommended!!
Disappointed of the services
The service is horrible! When step into the restaurant, there is no service person there. After the lady finally shows, She only asked us the reservation time and then walked away again. Our reservation is 11:30 and at that time already 11:35. After 10 minutes wait, table finally ready however we found out the baby chair is placed in the crossway which people passed by often. So I start to rearrange the chair and our waiter is not even want to help. During the course, I took baby out by stroller myself. The door is hard to open by one hand and the front desk person is standing there without other client and not even want to help me and watching me struggle until one kind customer helped me out. I been visited this restaurant time to time past 20 years. Super disappointed of the service here today!
Hype propels this underwhelming extremely expensive dinner
Unfortunately this well intended restaurant is another traveler rip off. Menu is unimaginative and offerings. For which there is no choice since its price fix, are marginal at best. The meal of overpriced caviar served on creme fresh on potato chips, ($80 ad on) quickly fizzled with a large mixed green salad with run of the mill oil and vinagrette. The entree of buttermilk fried chicken compared to grocery store fried at MANY times the price. The mashed potato’s were over coked, over whipped and under seasoned. The mushroom medley with an occasional turnip was an unhappy flop that went uneaten and the tiny undersized muffin served as carrot cake dessert was so unnoteworthy both in size and flavor as to insult a child looking for a snack. Without wine this meal was an astronomical $278!!
Overrated. OK to pass.
Good (not great food). Liked that it's a set, changing menu - so it's a bit of a surprise for you as to what you're going to get. Good drink service. BUT Very very very noisy. The acoustics in the place are horrible, when it's filled and the noise level of conversations across the entire restaurant builds up, plus with the music they air - I was at a two top and couldn't hear my dinner companion. Not fun. Also not great service. This is the only time I can remember where my server actually made such an impression on my overall experience - the entire interaction left me feeling like they were just checking the box, just wanted my party done and out of there. Not a fun experience all around. Would not repeat.
I was excited to try this restaurant .
We could not get in last year. The service was great and the portions were large. We had leftovers. The duck supplement was excellent . The issue I had was that Thomas Keller should know better, beef stroganoff in the middle of July in 102 degree heat, come on!! The pasta was freshly made but it's not like we could order anything else . Beef Stroganoff is a fall/ winter dish, it was way too heavy. The brownies were excellent.
We ordered a drink at the bar and a bucket of fried chicken.
We really appreciated ordering specific pieces and our bartender was quite helpful! The bar area was long and the dining area looked lovely. It made us wish we had made dinner reservations. We devoured that chicken and would definitely return.
The fried chicken on a Sunday night is perfection! Ad Hoc
The fried chicken on a Sunday night is perfection! Ad Hoc is low key high-end, and that's right up my alley! Fried chicken paired with champagne... I don't know what else could be better.
After a year, we decided to give Ad Hoc another try.
While the service was great, my husband and I were quite disappointed with our overall dining experience. The flank steak, unfortunately, was unexpectedly tough, cold and virtually inedible. We ate one slice each and left the rest of it on our plate. We were quite shocked as the restaurant has great reviews and was full. However, we looked at the reviews of the steak after finishing our meal and saw we were not the first to experience this. The rigatoni it was served with was also cold and quite flavorless. While we appreciate the quality of service provided, nothing from this meal gave us a reason to go back or to recommend this restaurant.
My friends and I visited this place for my birthday.
We made reservations ahead of time although we noticed some folks were walking in & getting seated. Great ambience and great location. Hostess was friendly and servers were professional and knowledgeable. Our group shared the family size options of waffles, delicious crispy chicken, ambrosia salad and salmon cakes. The cocktails were refreshing. Overall great experience and will be returning.
Always a great experience here.
The menu is changing daily but so fresh and full of great flavors. Staff are friendly & helpful as well. Love coming here whenever I come to Napa area
Food - the food was presented nicely.
The first course was warm potato salad. It had nice flavors added to it. All in all it was the best course. The second course was barbecue chicken. Our plates were actually too small for the size of the chicken so it was difficult to eat. The chicken was tender and a good quality. Flavor was good. The side dish was collard greens and we felt it did not complement the chicken. The third dish was the cheese and although it was a nice presentation the cheese was not tasty and the jelly over powered it. The last course was a sheet dessert and it was way too sweet. It was something served in a school cafeteria. I could not tell you what it was because we could not eat it. More appropriate for a preschool platelet. We left it. Service - the service was stellar. Ambiance - at first blush you hear a nice buzz when you enter the place and are made to believe that all is well because you read the reviews. But the truth- this place is for rich people who want to behave badly. Some people were talking so loudly they needed a private room and or a video on how to behave in a public restaurant. I felt like I was in a horror movie. Save your money and eat someplace else.
Was delicious! Servers were great and attentive.
It was quaint with open eating areas so loud. We didn't have any drinks from the bar but paired the wines with our meals. Wines were ok, we could have done without them as they added nothing to the meal, the pairings didn't conflict with the courses but just didn't elevate the meal. The wines weren't promoted or provided a spotlight.
Took my mom here for her birthday lunch.
Our table outside was lovely and the servers were spot-on. The menu was really disappointing however. Maybe because it was Sunday but it seemed like the menu was written to clear out all the old bread they had hanging around. The arugula, peach and strawberry salad, which was lovely, had chewy croutons. Not sure why they weren't crisp. It also had a maple vinaigrette, which was fine as a stand-alone, but considering the next course, was too much repetition. The main was their delicious fried chicken. Best I've had in ages and super generous serving. It was served with fried french toast sticks using the same hearty bread as the croutons, and served with maple syrup. They were fried very crunchy, and along with the fried chicken, was fried overload and really heavy. So there's a bread and maple theme that was getting boring. For dessert it was a lemon and blueberry bread pudding, using the same hearty bread. The lemon sauce was delicious but the bread pudding was just not what anyone wanted to eat at this point and so we only picked at it. So much potential but ruined by a poorly planned menu. We felt a little gypped.
Nice small place with delicious food.
It was busy when we came in, lucky to get a chair up in the counter.
Not impressed.
The maitre d was polished, welcoming and friendly. Everything else was just okay. The food was unimaginative, and served family style. Basically there was high quantity instead of high quality. The gentleman who served us our entree was grumpy. He mumbled the description of the dish, and when we asked a question he was short with us. Most of the waitstaff looked bored. Honestly, the service was no different than you'd expect from a Cracker Barrel. We won't return.
No famous fried chicken served. Eat NY strip instead.
On a Memorial Day weekend, they only served pre fix dinner with the NY strip steak as main. We wanted to try out their famous fried chicken, but they didn’t make it available. I felt they are lazy to force down uninteresting NY strip steak course when people come here for fried chicken.
Not the best TK restaurant: loud, long, and not best value.
This was fine: we did it and we won't be back, though we will continue to cook from their cookbook because the food was delicious. Pros: - staff were attentive - food was good - standard menu items had appropriate portions for table Cons: - dinner for 4 people took over 2.5 hours. For what this place is, that's a LONG time. They could have shortened time between each course by 5 minutes and that would have been more enjoyable. - the atmosphere was incredibly loud: it was almost impossible to hear what the couple across the table were saying to us. - the add-ons to the menu were not portioned properly. Most tables had even numbered guests so it would follow that something like ricotta gnocchis would be provided in even numbers: but they weren't. We were told it would be enough for the table but, for a 4 top, we were given 3 gnocchis and left to split them up. They could have offered a 4th for an extra amount or, more reasonably, provided 4 in the first place. It was an odd decision. - dessert was huge. It was a big meal and 1/2 of what was offered would have been more sufficient. - while it was all good, we felt we didn't get the same value here as we have at other TK places like Bouchon.
Hmmmm
Ad Hoc is a huge draw due to the famous owner, Thomas Keller. It’s hard to rate this restaurant since I’ve experienced The French Laundry, one of his other restaurants. Our service was fabulous. For the area, 4 courses of great food for $75 ( cannot recall the exact fixed price) is an amazing deal!!!!!!!! I’ve been 3 times to Ad Hoc, so love it enough to repeat my experience. However, the main course has continued to be very average. The salad, sides, and dessert ( gluten free) were delicious. The main was very average. Still, we come to Napa with out-of-town guests and everyone wants to dine at a Thomas Keller restaurant so will be back!
Management MIA
Fixed menu. Nice salad. Good sides, but not hot. Tough, improperly cooked short ribs. Good service from waiter. No response from management when issue brought to their attention.

The wife and I made a reservation, came inside to get immediately seated near the window. The staff were wonderful and very welcoming. It was pretty cold inside so make sure you bring a jacket. The menu was their famous fried chicken as the entree and then we added the crab sandwich. It's a set menu for the day listed in black text then you can do add ons with the price in red text. It's served as family style, each person pays a set price, the portions are large and can accommodate the bigger stomach folks. The iceberg lettuce with green goddess sauce was surprisingly flavor packed. The celery was pickled, it added a nice acidic contrast. Another favorite was the mashed potatoes, each bite had a delicious umami flavor with possibly a punch of tang from a lemon? I could not tell, nor could I stop eating it. The fried chicken was crunchy ~ almost like a double fry technique. The inside was juicy and savory. I ate 2 pieces before I tapped out because I was getting full and it was overwhelming to eat that much crunch. We ended with the olive oil cake that was good but I was already full to even eat my own slice. The whole experience was top notch, from the food to the staff, we enjoyed everything ad hoc had to offer!

The fried chicken is good here but does not live up to the hype. We came for the 3-course brunch, which included a spinach salad (this was meh), corned beef hash (the meat was pretty tender but a bit much for me), and monkey bread (my sister loved but I wasn't a fan). Obviously, we also had to get the fried chicken add-on. The breading is pretty thick - thicker than I usual expect - but still pretty good and the two pieces I had were nice and juicy. Sadly the piece my sister got was dry white meat. Although the service was friendly, I wasn't super wow'd by the food.
I would give this 3 stars but for the price I think it's
I would give this 3 stars but for the price I think it's not worth it - so I am giving 2 stars. We visited on March 16 and the menu was: salad, steak, and panna cotta for dessert. I also got the add-on for chicken and potato chips with caviar. For my young daughter we got the fruit platter and sorbet. The service was very good; they were friendly and considerate. The ambiance was average - nothing bad about it. I especially liked the marinated kumquats on the fruit platter. The broccoli was really well balanced. I was disappointed with the steak. It was chewy and I felt that it was a cheap cut of meat. Including my daughter, there were 4 of us, but she didn't eat from the menu. I paid 430$ for everything (after 18% tip). My two cents is that this wasn't worth what I paid. The steak was a main component and it failed to deliver.
This comment is strictly for their chicken and service.
First noting...anyone trying to grab a bucket of chicken to go or dine-in for their chicken, it's only available for lunch, not dinner. If you also plan to order in their back outdoor seating area, it is only open from May to August (shared by the host of the restaurant) but anyone is welcomed to sit in their outdoor area throughout the whole year. Great for those who have dogs (they also have a designated patio area for dine-in customers). Now for the chicken. I'm torn here and rate it a 3.5. I will say the crunchiness of the fried chicken and the juiciness of the meat were done perfectly and is a 5/5 in my books. The reason why I rated it a 3.5 was the taste. I felt even though the chicken was cooked perfectly, the flavor was lacking. This is where I was disappointed. (FYI....Bucket of 6 pieces costs about $45) For service, 5/5. The hostess was very helpful and accommodated our requests for our to go order.
We absolutely love their fried chicken.
That's everyone in the fam, including our two kids (who have wildly different appetites and are very picky eaters normally) and also our Bernadoodle who starts drooling when we approach the restaurant. During the week the quality can vary - wish they did a better job of being consistent in quality. But holidays and weekends have always been fantastic here!
Visiting from Florida and this was definitely the best
Visiting from Florida and this was definitely the best restaurant we've eaten at on our vacation. From the service, food and ambiance this is a 5 star restaurant!!!! We ate the pork, salmon, asparagus and mash potatoes all extremely good! I even loved the salad that started us off. The lemon bar for dessert was good but not great. If you're in the area this is a must!!!! I wish we could have tried the fried chicken that was available at different times. The servers were all very good constantly filling our water cup and asking if we needed anything.
Excellent.
Everything. The service, the informal but classy ambiance, and, of course, the food. See captions for more details, and I hate to tell you that the salad was the best part, but it really, really was. I could have eaten a whole meal of the caviar, salad, and fish and still loved every minute of it.

Hands down the best fried chicken I've ever tasted! The service was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive and the restaurant is clean and modern with a homey vibe. We loved everything we tried and enjoyed the family style vibe but I will dream about this fried chicken for years to come.
We eat there on a Saturday.
Amazing salad and salmon which was the alternative offer in place of the steak. The salmon was cooked perfectly grilled on the outside, moist inside. Service was very pleasant. The mash potato light and buttery, the vegetable grilled, tasty and great with the salmon and steak my companion had. The only sour note was the desert - peanut butter blondies which did not complement the rest of menu, hard texture and not to my taste. Unfortunate to end the meal that way. Disappointed. Pricey - I may have felt differently if 30% of the meal (desert) matched the rest. Drop the desert course if it cannot match the quality and value of your food. It clashes.
Called numerous and emailed numerous times to ask about
Called numerous and emailed numerous times to ask about planning a dinner for 18. They never got back to me. Guess that's an indication of their service.
Ad hoc
Treat yourself to a Thomas Keller family style dinner, you won’t be disappointed. I had the chicken Parmesan and hope to have fried chicken next time
Good, could’ve been great.
High expectations, that feel below the potential. We ordered the “menu” for tonight., salad (excellent) pinto beans (very good) pork (also very good)… we also added the Nashville hot chicken.. fantastic, and the lobster Mac and cheese.. again very nice! It was soooo much food, and it all came at once.. (I questioned everything coming at the same time and was told , we love you. It was overwhelming! Two of us and enough food for 2x! It would have been nice to have had some guidance on over ordering.., but no such a thing. And the wine paring. $50 a person, Chardonnay, Merlot, and a Sauternes… average at best… Could have easily been a fantastic experience with some appropriate guidance from a waiter that had our best intentions at heart.
Sad Meal at Ad Hoc
We have visited Ad Hoc in the past and loved it, and we looked forward to another fantastic meal last night. However—it was really, really disappointing, as all the diners sitting around us agreed. Swedish meatballs in a rich, overly salted sauce on overcooked noodles, accompanied by green beans(tasty) and a dish of creamy, cheesy potatoes. The finale was an ice cream sundae. What a carb and fat load! Potatoes and noodles, two creamy sauces and sundaes covered in chocolate and whipped cream?! One neighbor couldn’t her meal because of the salt. So—usually a great place, a huge disappointment last night.
Nostalgic Comfort Food
If you want to try a taste of comfort food coupled by recipes created by THE Thomas Keller I suggest you stop in here. We had the pleasure of dining here on a night they were serving the acclaimed chefs buttermilk fried chicken. A recommendation given to us by Cam over at Finesse. Cam Im sorry if i did not spell your name correctly. His recommendation did NOT disappoint. He was also extremely kind and knowledgeable about Chef Kellers restaurants. The drinks are amazing and the salad we started with had a dressing I could drink on its own haha. I had to invest in the Ad Hoc cookbook after this dining experience so I can try to recreate this amazing fried chicken at home. Really would love to return soon and try everything they offer here.
Ad Hoc is amazing!
We had been wanting to experience one of the Thomas Keller restaurants for quite some time now, and during our most recent trip to Napa, we decided to give Ad Hoc a try because it looked much more of a casual environment versus the other outlets with still an amazing looking food quality. We made reservation for Ad Hoc a few weeks in advance through Tock for dinner and arrived promptly at our dinner time. There's plenty of parking on the street for free and I think they may also have a private parking lot as well. We entered and were warmly greeted by the host and were promptly brought to our table and our server came by a few minutes later to introduce himself. We brought a bottle of wine as well and I think it was a $20 corkage fee. For dinner, there is a 4 course menu for $64 a person and they also have wine pairings for $55/person, and they have a full bar and wine list as well. For this particular evening, they started us with a delicious and fresh mixed greens and fruit salad which was absolutely amazing and a plenty big portion for the two of us to share. For the next course, we had Mediterranean Chicken Thighs and couscous with a yogurt sauce. For the third course we had a cheese board, and to close the meal we have a Vanilla Panna Cotta. All food was absolutely amazing and fresh, and a great quality. All employees were very well trained and explained each dish in full detail, including the food runners. It was truly an amazing dining experience and we look forward to returning during our next trip to Napa!
